US surveillance flights over Gaza taking off from Egyptian airport: Report
6 minutes ago
New reporting by journalist Matt Kennard, published by Palestine Deep Dive, reveals that US surveillance flights over Gaza have been taking off from an airport in Egypt's Sinai.
The US military, Kennard wrote, is using an obscure airport 13 miles from Gaza to fly surveillance missions around the enclave under the guise of a peacekeeping force.
Kennard said a US spy plane landed at Hatzor military base in Israel 13 times from Egypt, but that on 31 August, the pilot "forgot" to turn his transponder off, "circling off the coast of Gaza for an hour as Gaza City was attacked".
The plane, he said, is similar to the ones the British have been sending over Gaza since December 2023.

Israeli minister wears bulletproof vest in England as colleague invites Tommy Robinson
1 hour ago
The Israeli deputy minister of foreign affairs wore a bulletproof vest while addressing a crowd in Manchester, saying "as a Jew I am not safe in your streets".
Sharren Haskel was condemned by British parliamentarians earlier this year for secretly filming them when they were on a visit to Israel and posting the footage on Instagram, accompanied by disparaging remarks.
She was nevertheless allowed entry into Britain after a murderous antisemitic attack by a British Syrian on a synagogue in the Crumpsall area of Manchester on Thursday.
At least two people were killed and four others wounded in the attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on 2 October.
Greater Manchester Police later admitted responsibility for shooting dead one of the victims and wounding another.
"Here as a Jew I am not safe in your streets," Haskel told a crowd of hundreds commemorating the victims of the attack in Manchester on Sunday.
"I'm threatened with death, for nothing more than my very existence," she claimed.
"I stand before you in a bulletproof vest, a Kevlar vest, here on this stage. I am not allowed to be here without it."
'India funds, Gaza burns': Protests against genocide erupt across cities in India
1 hour ago
Thousands of protesters across several Indian cities have risked beatings, arrest and detention to demand that India sever ties with Israel as part of a global commemoration of two years of genocide in Gaza.
Protests on Sunday took place in New Delhi, Patna, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.
In Rohtak, in the state of Haryana, at least six protesters were detained and allegedly beaten by both vigilantes and the police.
By nightfall, female activists were released, but by Monday afternoon, male activists were still being held.
Since the Hamas-led attacks on Israel in October 2023, India has emerged as one Israel's strongest allies. Delhi has abstained from several ceasefire resolutions, sidestepped an international call for a military embargo, and has refused to join the genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague.
The Indian state has also sent combat drones, arms components and bombs to its ally over the past two years, while 20,000 Indians have made their way to Israel to ostensibly replace Palestinian workers in construction and the caregiving sector.
Though the number of protesters taking to the streets in recent days are comparatively modest compared to the mobilisations currently taking place in Italy and Spain, activists say that momentum towards a mass movement against India's continued support for Israel is slowly building.
Top Vatican cardinal says Israel carrying out massacre in Gaza
1 hour ago
The Vatican's top diplomat has criticised Israel's "ongoing massacre" in Gaza in comments published on Monday.
In an interview tied to the second anniversary of Hamas' attack on Israeli communities on 7 October 2023, Cardinal Pietro Parolin also called those attacks "inhuman and indefensible" and urged Hamas to free remaining Israeli captives.
"Those who are attacked have a right to defend themselves, but even legitimate defence must respect the principle of proportionality," said Parolin, the Vatican secretary of state and one of Pope Leo's top deputies.
"The war waged by the Israeli army to eliminate Hamas militants disregards the fact that it is targeting a largely defenceless population, already pushed to the brink, in an area where buildings and homes are reduced to rubble," he said.
"It is ... clear that the international community is, unfortunately, powerless and that the countries truly capable of exerting influence have so far failed to act to stop the ongoing massacre," Parolin told the Vatican's media outlet.
He added: "It's not enough to say that what is happening is unacceptable and then continue to allow it to happen.
"We must seriously ask ourselves about the legitimacy ... of continuing to supply weapons that are being used against civilians." He did not name any countries.

In a statement, the Lebanese health ministry said that "an Israeli drone strike targeted a car on the Zebdine road in the Nabatiyeh district" in south Lebanon, killing two people and wounding one other.
Last week, the United Nations said it had verified the deaths of 103 civilians in Lebanon since the November truce, demanding a halt to the Israeli attacks.

Members voted for the motion at the Green Party's annual conference in Bournemouth on Sunday, making it party policy.

Party leader Zack Polanski backed the motion, saying in the conference hall that to do so was a "moral imperative".
The motion also said that Britain "should formally apologise to the people of Palestine for the Balfour Declaration", which in 1917 expressed British support for the creation of a Jewish homeland in Palestine.
Oil tanker known to deliver oil to Israel set to leave Turkey
4 hours ago
An oil tanker that is known to frequently deliver crude oil to Israel is set to leave the Turkish port of Ceyhan for an "unknown destination", Middle East Eye can reveal.
Researchers from the Palestinian Youth Movement and No Harbour for Genocide, using commercial trading and tracking data, said the Nissos Tinos docked in Ceyhan on 4 October to load 33,830 tonnes of crude oil and is scheduled to depart on 6 October at 6:38am local time.
While the vessel’s final destination is currently unknown, satellite imagery and automatic identification system data (AIS) - a tracking system that uses transceivers on ships - revealed that its last two journeys were crude oil deliveries to Israel.
The tanker previously left Ceyhan on 23 September, arriving in the Israeli port of Ashkelon on 25 September, the data showed. On 10 September, it left Russia’s Novorossiysk and arrived in Israel on 20 September.
Ceyhan is the last stop on the BP-owned Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, which transports crude oil from Azerbaijan. The oil is then shipped from the Heydar Aliyev Terminal at Ceyhan to Israel, accounting for almost 30 percent of its crude oil imports.
