(He initially had to entitle it “The Cynic’s Wordbook,” which doesn’t have the same ring, because his pious editors wanted to avoid referring to Mephistopheles.)

However, because of his determination and love of living, he stayed alive and for much longer than he was expected to, until six years ago and at the age of 76.
