We call ourselves human being, a specie that branched out
from other mammals in a significant manner about 2.3 million years ago. Those
who moved out of Africa million years later were even more developed and acquired
more physical resemblance to our present features. Throughout centuries, we
human beings continued on a different evolutionary progression than other
species by transforming the nature to fashion it more suitable to our well-being.
We have created technological schemes to reduce direct effects of nature, while
other species have been unable of making such changes. In short, we have made
life more comfortable through such innovations, and lengthier through
treatments for diseases and ailments. In spite of all the successes we have made
in enhancing our living standard and broadening our lifespan, we have caused calamities
which have harmed many lives and precipitated extinction of many species. This
pattern may cause our own annihilation along with all life forms, considering rapid
environmental changes and destructive force of our weaponry in a mass scale:
· The paradox in human behavior is the act of love and hate and the extent
in which we stretch our resources to satisfy these two opposite behaviors, such
as endangering our lives in order to save someone else’s life as an act of
altruism; while we allocate most of our resources in military which has no
purpose but killing other humans and destroying everything in the process.
· Animals seldom kill their kind, except and in rare mating occasions; but
murder in cold blood and without any physical need, is exclusive to our
species.
· We have invented so much, enabling us to access anything we desire right before
us without much struggle; to the point that we can destroy ourselves and
everything on earth three times over by pressing a single button.
· We have renovated tools to benefit from the environment, shaped the land
to produce in abundance, and altered the nature towards our advantage; while we
have exploited all to the point of no return.
· We have expanded our knowledge of our own organism and ways to keep
diseases away from us; to the point that we are over-populating our planet.
· We have discovered ways to destroy organisms that are detriment to our
health, and we have invented many chemicals that keep us healthy and beautiful;
on the other hand, we have discovered habitual substances consuming of which
shorten our lives.
· The survival of our species depends on the health and survival of both
male and female genders; notwithstanding that females have steered away from
their natural mission towards a competitive contest with the opposite sex, while
still subservient to their male counterparts, and they will remain as such as
long as they are called the opposite sex.
· We dream of a just society; while we keep increasing the gap between the
rich, with the most amounts of earthly resources, and the poor, with the least.
· We create religion, philosophy, politics, and social norms to spread love;
and we use the same doctrines to subjugate and exploit a majority for the
benefit of a few.
· Our eyes swim in tears for an unseen prophet’s suffering in a religious
setting; after finishing a day of work in a torture chamber.
· We establish a system of government in order to organize our social
structure for a just and equitable society and happiness for all; but we keep a
group of autocrats, bureaucrats, despots, and lovers of fame and fortune as our
leaders, who make our lives unbearable.
In short, we are the only, or
one of the rare species who torture and kill our own; destroy our environment;
use poisonous substances to divert our brains into a state of hallucination;
lie and cheat; make every effort to become richer and more famous than others;
push others down by segregating them nationally, socially, racially, by
profession, language, gender, religion, tradition, custom; create imaginary
gods and prophets and enslave ourselves to them; and call ourselves master of
all living things.
