Massacre

Humans are the most vicious of all species. We don’t have to go back to pre-dinosaurs’ time in order to verify the brutalities and barbarism of our ancestors. When we wake up in the morning and check the news for the events of the previous day, there is at least one report of an international conflict or war happening in some parts of the world, and there is at a minimum one homicide committed in the country where we live, and there is always the news of a government or an individual or a group of people hurting another individual or group as a reprimand or for personal gain. Governments killing their own citizens as a punishment is another story.

Reflections of War Drawing by LionEl C ...

Animals, whom we call wildlife, kill other species to feed themselves and their families. They don’t kill their own kind or species. However, many male animals fight other males of the same kind over a female, for mating. This is in fact established genetically in order to improve the species’ physical and mental capacities through time. When two male animals are fighting, the one realizing that he cannot compete the other combatant, due to the other’s superior physical abilities, he submits to the winer and leaves the scene of the war. More importantly, defeaters do not follow the conquered to slaughter them. Humans kill animals and vegetation for food, as animals do, depending on whether they are vegetarian, carnivore, or both. Humans also fight with each other and kill one another, for many other reasons as well. However, the main reason humans murder each other is for ideology, in addition to gaining wealth, such as expanding their land. The best example is the atrocities, and the genocide Israeli government is inflicting on their Arab neighbors today, just to take over their lands and expand Zionists’ territories.

Glancing over nations of the world, the most advanced societies who enjoy benefits which are not comparable to other nations’, aka most westerners, are those with more advanced military structures and more sophisticated military technology. This means that such powerful nations have improved their social status because of their enhanced armed forces, and they use this superiority in order to keep other nations down and submissive. Checking pages of history, it has been the case and documented as long as we have historical narratives. Romans, Greeks, Persians, and other superior countries reached such supremacy by making advancements in their military power. British dominance in early twentieth century, and American supremacy after the second world war, till recently, have been as a result of their military pre-eminences.

Half of the human population of the world has been kept from advancing, for as long as history can verify. They are the ones who are genetically built weaker, and physically smaller, and more tender than their counterparts, called women. Not only they cannot physically compete on average with men, but they are also kept from many activities reserved for men. They are our mothers, daughters, and sisters, but they are smaller and weaker than their male counterparts, so men can impose their wills upon them. Even religions keep them down, in order to serve men. For instance, in Islam, they must cover their hair, since their hair is supposed to excite the other gender! In all three largest religions, Islam and Christianity and Judaism, they cannot reach the highest religious hierarchy, such as a mullah or pope or rabbi. They are required by the teachings of their religions and the norm of their societies to satisfy their male counterparts and submit to them physically and intellectually. However, they are the ones who must bear nine months of strenuous pregnancy period, and finally withstand a devastating operation called birth, in order to keep prolongation of human race. Not long ago, they were not even allowed to vote. Stoning women in some societies used to be the norm. Today, their status is better than those of the previous centuries, and they fare better in American and European countries than other nations. However, they still don’t have equal rights in any society.

In animal kingdom, the one with bigger and superior body has an upper hand. Although, this is not always the case among all species, as a small snake can bite and kill an African elephant. However, it is generally the condition when two animals are fighting. In the human kingdom, it is said that the one with a bigger brain can defeat others or move above others in status. That is proven not to be necessarily the case everywhere, and always. As it was mentioned earlier, what gives power to human societies is their destruction capabilities stemmed from their superior military power. A president or a leader of a country is not necessarily (and unfortunately in almost all cases, nowadays) the brightest or the best politician, but the one who maintains his or her country’s military establishment superior to others and submits to what is called the “Military Industrial Complex”. There is no need to mention the power of those who have access to weapons and ammunition in dictatorial countries, but even in the ones considered democracies, populations are controlled and guided by armed forces. Looking at the statistics, most of the population in any society, almost all the time, do not agree with ideas of their leaders and trends of those leaders’ politics. A good example is the United States, with the most powerful military in the world, from the time when this country inflicted a war in Vietnam in mid-twentieth century, after becoming a superpower economically, continuing with other wars throughout the rest of that century, until today, keeping governments under their control by regime change has been the aim.

Countries are presently governed by certain ideologies, benefiting a small group in any of those countries who keep their superiority by use of force and by wealth. In western countries, monopolies, especially those manufacturing ammunition, are the ones who select leaders. In Eastern countries, religious leaders are the ones behind powers.

What we call “Western Democracy” is a scheme that is propagated as the most advanced and the best political system in the world. It represents several political parties with delegates selected from each party, to be represented in each election. For example, in the United States alone, there are seventeen political parties, according to Wikipedia, where each candidate is represented from each party for various government offices, positions of which decided by people belonging to those parties. Looking at the elected officials for the highest office, only representatives of the two democratic and republican parties have been elected in the past century or so, as the following table represents:

As the above table represents, out of forty-seven elected presidents of the United States, the first two were from Federalist party, the next three from Democratic-Republican party, four of them from Whig party, and the remaining thirty-eight have been from either Democratic or Republican parties. The reason for these two parties dominating all the elections by far? Because democratic and republican parties are highly supported by large businesses, especially the “Military Industrial Complex”, and those parties receive enormous financial support from these large monopolies. That is the justification for perpetual war instigated or initiated by American government in the last several decades.

As people become more aware of atrocities of their governments, dissatisfaction rises among people. According to Pew Research Center, dissatisfaction among people of twelve high-income countries is on the rise:

There are countries in the western hemisphere with high income and political systems labeled as Western Democracies. This system is supposed to represent the will of majority of inhabitants of each country. For instance, according to Pew Research Center, as time goes by, more Americans are against the atrocities of the Jewish state in Palestine, amid American government’s support of Israel and providing this belligerent regime with state of the art ammunitions targeted towards a group of people whose land is occupied by such destructive state. Of course, voice of citizens does not change American government’s policies, as voices of corporations, especially weapon manufacturing establishment would determine US government’s strategies, in contract with voices of people and such popular opposition towards those policies, as the following table represents:

When countries are divided into two camps, both of which are benefiting high officials rather than the majority of ordinary people, the example of which is presented above for the richest and the most influential country in the world, the result is usually sacrificing the environment, the non-human, the poor and destitute. In that respect, one cannot hope for a bright future for the human being. And, considering that human beings are far above all other species, in a race to massacre everything in order to benefit the rich, one cannot be very optimistic about the future of the world, considering that such species can, and might, destroy the whole world with their nuclear capabilities.

Due to satellite and internet technologies, we have achieved tremendous superiority in our daily lives, by reaching beyond our solar system, and viewing other worlds previously unknown to us. As a result, our lives have shaped very differently from the lives of our parents and our ancestors, the progression which continues rapidly as time goes by. One of the most intriguing advancements in our lives is venturing outside of our planet and beyond the world we can perceive by our five senses. If all the human endeavors and knowledge were spent on science for advancing our horizon, instead of military inventions and technologies, our world would have looked much different from what we witness today. We would probably be living in what we call utopia.
