Israel’s
military continues to pound Gaza, killing several Palestinians in attacks on
Gaza City and Khan Younis, a day after at least 19 people died in assaults
throughout the Strip.
More than 700
members of a major Hollywood union have demanded their association take a stand
to protect pro-Palestinian voices from being blacklisted in the industry.

Fifty-two years
ago, almost to the day, on September 8, 1972, I survived the first of many
Israeli air and sea raids on my refugee camp in northern Lebanon. I was less
than two hundred yards from the area across the river where a group of us young
kids met every day, between 4 and 5 p.m., to play in the large field, swim in
the river or in the Mediterranean Sea.
The first
confirmed use of ATACMS, Storm Shadow or Scalp inside of Russia would provoke a
Russian military strike against a western military target. We should step back
from this new missile crisis and push for a negotiated ceasefire.

(Special to Informed Comment; Feature) – A few days before the invasion of Iraq
by American forces under G.W.Bush, on
March 16, 2003, a young woman from Seattle, Washington, who had gone to Rafah,
in Gaza to help Palestinians halt the demolition of homes died under the
bulldozer of the Israeli army.
At the weekend
Australia’s national broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation
(ABC), featured a story reporting the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) had indeed
carried out the Hannibal Directive, killing untold numbers of Israeli civilians
on Oct. 7.

Flashlights in
the hands of rescue workers break the dense darkness over the sand in
al-Mawasi, the tent encampment sheltering displaced Palestinians in Khan
Younis. A group of men with shovels struggle to remove sand in the middle of a
giant crater created by an Israeli airstrike on the Israeli-designated “safe
zone.” In video testimony collected for Mondoweiss, rescue workers pull out
half-buried blankets from the sand and explain that they are trying to dig
people out of the massive crater that was caused by an Israeli airstrike.

Donald Trump and
Kamala Harris not only proved last night that they have no fleshed out foreign
policy visions of their own, but that they feel most comfortable pantomiming
like they do, using bafflingly cartoonish language about each other, playing so
fast and loose with history, facts, and figures so as to make the entire debate
over what to do in Ukraine and Gaza absolutely incoherent.
For three hours
under the darkness of Gaza’s night sky, search-and-rescue teams dug bodies and
survivors out of piles of sand. Eventually, they paused, exhausted, to wait for
daybreak and see what else was left.
Israel has
attacked 16 schools in Gaza in the past six weeks, killing hundreds of
Palestinians, rights group Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor reported this week —
as hundreds of thousands of children in Gaza should have been starting a new
school year.
Polio. Chickenpox.
Hepatitis. The threat of epidemics is looming large in Gaza, thanks to Israel’s
deliberate destruction of the Strip’s healthcare and sanitation infrastructure.
Left without clean water, sewage, waste disposal, and adequate shelter, the
health of Palestinians in Gaza is rapidly declining. Children and the elderly
are among the most vulnerable, and time is running out. The Real News reports
from the ground in Gaza, speaking directly with sanitation experts and local
mothers about the conditions Israel has created through its total war on the
Palestinian people.
For many years I
lived just up the road from Megiddo prison in northern Israel, where new film
of Israeli guards torturing Palestinians en masse has been published by
Israel’s Haaretz newspaper. I drove past Megiddo prison on hundreds of
occasions. Over time I came to barely notice the squat grey buildings,
surrounded by watch towers and razor wire.

Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City.
The recent
revocation of the Jewish National Fund’s (JNF) charitable status may be the
most important Palestine solidarity victory in Canadian history. The grassroots
win is a boost to the global Stop the JNF campaign and efforts to disrupt
Canadian charity assistance to Israel.
