Israel’s bombing of Gaza caused untold environmental Damage − Can it Recover?

February 28, 2025
Lesley Joseph
(The Conversation) – The war in Gaza has come with an awful cost. Tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians have been killed, and thousands more are missing. And while a temporary ceasefire has allowed for increased aid delivery, easing the plight of those facing disease and hunger, experts predict malnutrition and health issues to persist for months or even years.

A Cruel Hoax: the Political Economy of Anti-immigration

February 28, 2025
Richard D. Wolff
Deporting immigrants may deliver electoral wins to politicians if voters have been sufficiently cultivated by years of demonizing and scapegoating them. For its victims, the cruelties involved are horrific. Yet such deportation makes little sense economically. It represents a nationally self-destructive program based on a faulty grasp of immigration economics. What once “made America great” (at least for the majority white population) were its successive waves of immigrants. What underscored the American economy’s strength was its ability to absorb and integrate those waves despite frictions among them: a genuinely productive melting pot. My American schooling through my PhD stressed such points.

From Truman to Trump: Palestine, America’s Fork in the Road

February 25, 2025
M. Reza Behnam
For Palestine and Palestinians, 14 May 1948 was a fateful day in its 4,000-year history. It was also historically pivotal for the United States. Paraphrasing British author, George Orwell, it is essential to rediscover the past in order to gain control of the present and save the future.

( Tomdispatch.com ) – Count on one thing: in some almost unimaginable future, no American president (if we even have them anymore) is going to rename a mountain for Donald Trump as he’s recently tried to do with North America’s tallest peak. He wants Alaska’s Mount Denali (to hell with Native American names!) to be called Mount McKinley in honor of President William McKinley, the man who, in the 1890s, launched this country as an imperial power of the first order.

There are over three decades of evidence that Israeli doctors harvest Palestinian organs in direct violation of international law. These stolen body parts were not just used for transplantation and research but for sale and profit.

F*ck Big Book

February 22, 2025
Amanda Crocker
In 2003 I bought a t-shirt that on the front said “Fuck Bush” in a surprisingly cheery font and on the back had a two-column list of twenty-four corporations: “Fuck Exxon-Mobil, Fuck Coca-Cola, Fuck Starbucks …” When I wore it to protests no one ever stopped me to ask me why Nike or Disney were on the list. After all, the Left is usually very good at analyzing and critiquing capital, showing us where the money is and what it means for massive corporations to wield extraordinary power. From Big Pharma to Big Energy, Big Retail, Big Agriculture, and Big Media, both academics and activists can usually name the largest of our corporate enemies in each industry and at least two or three of their corporate crimes.

Trump/Musk Dictatorship Is Galvanizing the American People’s Resistance

February 14, 2025
Ralph Nader
Madmen Trump and Musk are moving with warp speed to illegally and dictatorially wreck America and enrich themselves in the process. Forget the use of the terms “autocracy” and “constitutional crisis.” This is a savage dictatorship, getting worse by the day. Trump is attacking the courts, ignoring Congress run by a cowardly GOP, pushing to cut off critical assistance for tens of millions of Americans, devastating health, safety, food (Meals on Wheels), education (Head Start), and Medicaid insurance protections.

‘Humiliating and painful’: testimonies of mass displacement in the northern West Bank

February 11, 2025
Qassam Muaddi
Israel has expanded its offensive on the northern West Bank from the Jenin refugee camp, to the refugee camps of Nur Shams in Tulkarem and al-Far’a in Tubas. Dubbed “Operation Iron Wall,” the Israeli assault has been ongoing for three weeks, killing at least 25 Palestinians, wounding over 100, and forcibly displacing 40,000 people from their homes according to a statement by UNRWA on Monday.

An Israeli bulldozer destroyed Palestinian homes in Jenin refugee camp as Israeli colonial forces continue to raid Jenin and the camp for a fourth day as part of a major military operation to crack down on armed resistance, January 24, 2025. Israeli armed bulldozers have entered the camp, destroying infrastructure and homes. Witnesses report that some houses are being burned by Israeli forces. Drones are constantly hovering over the camp, observing as many Palestinian families were forced to flee in the past few days. Entrances and exits are blocked by the Israeli forces, preventing health workers and journalists from entering the refugee camp. At least 12 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 40 injured in Israel’s assault on Jenin. (Photo: Wahaj Bani Moufleh/Activestills)

For 15 months, I was displaced from my home in northern Gaza. For 15 long months that felt like 15 years, I felt like a stranger in my own homeland. The American Inquisition Cometh

February 10, 2025
Kary Love
Don Trump, current temporary occupant of the elective office of President of the United States, has issued an Executive Order to ferret out “antichristianity” from the federal government. Now cynics might perceive an odd karmic resonance from the “communist witch hunts” of Senator Joe McCarthy though the grotesque, twisted soul of Roy Cohn to his acolyte Don Trump, but nothing could be further from the truth. Be assured: there is no “antichrist” in this “antichristianity” purge. The choice of words is just a coincidence.
