The difference between the Saudis and ISIS

Can you tell the difference?

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia celebrated the New Year by executing 47 people, mostly by beheadings.
Saudi officials said the mass execution, one of the largest in the kingdom in decades, was aimed at deterring those committed to violence against the state. But analysts said that the grouping of the cleric, Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, with hardened militants was a message to dissidents, and that it could exacerbate sectarian tensions across the Middle East. The executions were the first of 2016 and followed a year in which at least 157 people were put to death, the conservative Muslim kingdom’s highest yearly total in two decades.
Most of the attention is focused on the execution of a shiite cleric. This mass execution includes a teenager who was beheaded and then publicly crucified for the crime of peacefully demonstrating against the royal family.
This mass execution has stirred up the meme that there is no real difference between Saudi Arabia and ISIS, but that is false. I would like to help clear up that confusion.
OK, sure. ISIS and KSA have very similar laws, but it’s important to look beyond that.
And sure, lots of ISIS fighters come from KSA, not to mention the 9/11 attackers. And sure, KSA directly supports ISIS, but you need to look past that. So what’s the difference between ISIS and KSA? The KSA has more oil, and thus is our ally. I’m glad I could clear that up for you.
