UNRWA says flooding ‘doubling the misery’ for displaced in Deir el-Balah
Days of heavy rains have made life for displaced Palestinians living in makeshift tents even more dire, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
“Heavy rains flooded shelters in #Gaza’s Deir el-Balah doubling the misery for displaced people living [in] tents,” the agency posted on X.
“Amid the ongoing war, severe storms are causing widespread flooding, leaving thousands in urgent need of safety and humanitarian aid.”
The flooding comes as aid agencies warn of an ongoing humanitarian crisis and looming famine, with Israel repeatedly accused of preventing aid deliveries on the scale that is needed.
UNRWA said on Tuesday that “Blankets, mattresses and warm clothes are sitting outside Gaza waiting for approval to get in”.

Israel issues evacuation threat for Jabalia

The Israeli military’s Arabic language spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, has issued the latest order for Palestinians to evacuate an area in the northwest of city – desginated area D3 – or face an impending attack.
The post called on people in those areas to “move immediately” to shelters in the centre of Gaza City. It said the military would strike after rockets were launched from the area.
The United Nations has said that about 90 percent of Gaza’s population has been displaced since the war began, with many people moving several times over. Those living in makeshift shelters are currently contending with deadly cold weather, rains and flooding.
