US Begins Bombing Iran for the Second Night

Iranian media reported explosions in several Iranian cities along the coast
US Central Command said on Wednesday that the US started bombing Iran again, marking the second night of US strikes, which came after President Trump said the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding was “over” and threatened more attacks.
Iranian media reported explosions near several Iranian cities along the coast, including Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Konarak, and Chabahar, and said that Iranian air defenses are confronting “hostile targets.”
Iran’s IRNA news agency reported that a firefighter was killed by US strikes that hit facilities at the Iranshahr airport in southeastern Iran.
CENTCOM said that it was “conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.” A US official told Reuters that the strikes would be heavier than the night before.
After the strikes started, President Trump issued a series of posts on his Truth Social account that appear to be photos and videos of the aftermath of US bombings in Iran. “This is in retribution for yesterday’s bombing of ships by Iran. If it happens again, it will get much worse!” he said in one post.
Citing an Iranian source, Iran’s PressTV reported earlier in the day that if the US attacked again, Iranian forces would hit back twice as hard and completely close the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responded to the first wave of attacks that began on Tuesday night by targeting US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait.
The US started the strikes on Tuesday after three tankers came under drone attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has maintained that under the MoU, it is solely responsible for traffic going through the strait and that any other arrangements violate the agreement.
“The memorandum of understanding signed on this matter clearly states that Iran will reopen the Strait in accordance with its own arrangements. Therefore, Iran will not permit the establishment of any new route outside the framework of its own arrangements,” said the source speaking to PressTV.

The IRGC and Iranian army hit US sites in Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain after Washington carried out hundreds of strikes across Iran overnight
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian army retaliated on 9 July to Washington’s latest round of airstrikes on the Islamic Republic overnight, which consisted of hundreds of airstrikes.
“In the first phase of the punitive response against the US treaty-breakers, the IRGC Navy and Aerospace Force carried out a joint missile and drone operation shortly after the enemy's attacks,” the IRGC said in a statement on Thursday.
“Launching strikes from various locations across the country, they targeted and destroyed key infrastructure and facilities at two US military bases in Kuwait – Arifjan and Ali al-Salem – and two bases in Bahrain – Juffair and Sheikh Isa,” the statement added.
The IRGC warned the “child-killing regime” that “crushing responses will be expanded to include” other US bases throughout the region “if aggression is repeated.”
In a separate statement, the Iranian military said it targeted a Patriot air defense system in Kuwait, an early-warning satellite antenna in Qatar, and US military fuel storage facilities in Bahrain with a large wave of attack drones.
The statement added that Iran's armed forces “will not allow” Washington to achieve its objectives.
Footage on social media showed the moment an Iranian missile hit the US Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain.
The retaliatory strikes began around 4:00 am, a few hours after a massive wave of US strikes across Iran.
According to Iranian media, Israel took part in the latest US assault.
IRIB reported that US-Israeli strikes hit the ports of Shahid Beheshti and Kalantari, as well as the maritime traffic control tower in Chabahar, causing power outages across half the city after three electricity lines were cut.
Two power lines have reportedly been repaired since then.
IRIB also reported that two projectiles struck Bushehr, while nearly a dozen explosions were heard on Abu Musa Island.
Several areas in Kabudarahang County were also attacked early on Thursday.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI) confirmed that passenger services on the Tehran–Mashhad line were suspended after a US-Israeli attack early Thursday struck a section of the railway route.
This came as Iranians continued to make their way to Mashhad for the burial of late supreme leader Ali Khamenei, whose casket arrived in the city on 9 July.
The deadly US-Israeli strikes coincided with the final day of Khamenei’s massive, multi-city funeral. The major escalation against Iran consisted of at least 200 strikes.
ABC News, citing a US official, reported that the strikes on Iran were on a larger scale than those of the previous night, which targeted more than 80 locations.
The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said its new strikes were aimed at “holding Iran accountable” for attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The escalation came a day after US President Donald Trump declared that the so-called ceasefire was “over,” following an IRGC and Iranian military response to US airstrikes carried out on Iran early on 8 July.
Those US attacks were a response to Iranian strikes on oil tankers that violated the new regulations imposed on the Strait of Hormuz by the Islamic Republic.
Iran’s responses targeted US military assets in Bahrain and Kuwait on Wednesday morning.
Over the past 48 hours, US attacks on Iran have killed at least 14 people and wounded 78. Forty-seven remain hospitalized, according to Tasnim News Agency.
Among the casualties were eight Iranian army officers, who were killed in the US strikes that took place early on Wednesday.

The president said Iran would get hit hard again and threatened to destroy civilian infrastructure
President Trump said on Wednesday that the ceasefire and US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding are “over” and called Iranian leadership “scum” after the US bombed Iran again and the Iranian military hit back at US bases in the region.
“To me, I think it’s over. I don’t want to deal with them anymore. I think they’re scum,” the president told reporters at the NATO summit in Ankara while meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
“You know what scum is? They’re scum. They’re sick people. They’re led by sick people. And they’re vicious, violent people. And if they had a nuclear weapon, they’d use it. As far as I’m concerned, it’s over,” he added.
Trump suggested that his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, could continue negotiations if they wanted to, but that they would “have to come back to me … as far as I’m concerned it’s just a waste of time.”
The president also said that he would bomb Iran again tonight. “We’ll probably hit them hard again tonight. I’ll give him a little warning. We’re going to hit [them] hard tonight, but we’ll see how it all works out,” he said.
Later in the day, Trump said the US wasn’t even “attacking at the highest level” and threatened that the US could destroy Iran’s civilian infrastructure, including bridges and desalination plants, attacks that would be clear war crimes under international law.
“The highest level is the bridges, which we can knock down. I would say in one day we could knock down every single bridge in Iran, there’s not a thing they can do about it. Their electric manufacturing facilities … they have desalinization plants, we’ll take them out if we have to. I’d hate to do that. That’s probably the one I’d like to do least,” he said while meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Trump said that the US bombed Iran’s Kharg Island overnight and suggested the US could “take” the island and that Iran wouldn’t be able to do anything about it, though any ground operation would almost certainly result in major US casualties since invading US troops would face sustained Iranian drone and missile fire.
The president approved the Tuesday strikes while at the NATO summit after at least three commercial ships came under drone attack while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has maintained that, under the MoU, it is solely responsible for traffic passing through the strait and that any arrangements outside its approved channels violate the agreement.

The IRGC said that its forces hit back at 85 US targets in the region and downed a US MQ-9
The Iranian military said in a statement on Wednesday that overnight US airstrikes on the Iranian coast killed at least eight Iranian soldiers, Iran’s Mehr News Agency has reported.
The US attacks on Iran that began after several commercial ships were hit by drones in the Strait of Hormuz lasted for several hours and reportedly hit Qeshm Island and the port cities of Bandar Abbas, Sirik, and Mahshahr.
Iran’s PressTV said the US strikes targeted “a number of coastal bases and non-military stations,” and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attacks “openly violated the ceasefire” and “trampled the Islamabad understanding.”
In response to the US strikes, the IRGC said that it attacked 85 US targets in Bahrain and Kuwait. “In the initial response to this aggression, the naval and aerospace forces of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps, in a joint missile and drone operation, struck 85 locations of important US military facilities at Salman Port, the US Fifth Fleet area in Bahrain, and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait,” the IRGC said.
The IRGC also said that its forces downed a US MQ-9 Reaper drone that was flying over Iran’s Bushehr province. Since the US and Israel launched the war against Iran on February 28, the US has lost more than two dozen MQ-9s.
More attacks appear to be coming, as President Trump said on Wednesday that the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding was “over” and that he would launch another round of strikes at night. Iran has warned that it will hit back even harder if there are further US attacks.

  • Iran says it attacked “US bases and strategic centres” in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar after the US bombed Iranian cities for a second consecutive night.
  • The US attacks have killed 14 people and wounded 78 over two days with blasts reported in Iranian cities along the Strait of Hormuz, including Bushehr, Chabahar, Bandar Abbas, and Sirik.
  • US President Donald Trump says the strikes were “retribution” for alleged Iranian attacks on ships transiting Hormuz.
  • Iran’s slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will be buried in his hometown of Mashhad today after millions of people attended funeral processions in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala.
