Cori Bush’s Gazan SOTU Guest: Congress Is “Complicit in the Murder of My Family”

March 13, 2024
Intimaa Salama, a 27-year-old dentist from Gaza, attended last week’s State of the Union address at the invitation of U.S. Rep. Cori Bush. Though she said she felt honored to join Bush in demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire and full restoration of funding for humanitarian assistance through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), she said she’s now clear she’ll never go to another State of the Union.

Biden’s Red Line: Why U.S. Could Be Days Away From Suspending Arms Sales to Israel

March 12, 2024
WASHINGTON – There is a very real chance that the United States will halt the sale of offensive weaponry to Israel by month’s end should it fail to dramatically improve the amount of aid entering Gaza, or if it launches a military operation in Rafah without a credible plan for the million-plus Palestinians sheltering there.

Strangled by Israel for decades, Gaza’s future must begin with free movement

March 10, 2024
In partnership with
In recent months, international media attention has rightfully been devoted to the unprecedented scope of death and destruction wrought by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip. Daily news bulletins have grown increasingly concerned with the deprivation of food, water, medicine, and other basic supplies resulting from the intensified siege that Israel imposed shortly after the Hamas-led attacks of October 7.

The Historical Origin of “The Singing Union”

March 8, 2024
A Very Musical Reputation
The early history of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) has become the stuff of legend for the U.S. socialist left. In its first decade, the IWW led massive strikes of industrial workers that cut across ethnic boundaries in the east and brutal free speech fights for the rights of its organizers to publicly promote industrial unionism in the west. Many of its organizers were assassinated by right-wing vigilantes or executed by the state, and some have become martyr figures for U.S. socialism and trade unionism. Key to the legendary status of the early IWW is the notion that the organization was a “singing union.”1

Palestinian man cries as he holds a child

Book Review: The New Tsar

By: Steven Lee Myers
This is a biography of Vladimir Putin, Russia’s most powerful government official. The title of the book is supposed to imply Putin as a dictator, as all the Tsars were. This trend continues throughout the book, although the character of this person, and his desire to promote Russia to its former status, Soviet Union, is clearly explained throughout the book.

Survivors of Gaza aid convoy massacre describe ‘indiscriminate’ Israeli fire

March 5, 2024
In the early hours of Feb. 29, more than 110 Palestinians were killed and several hundred wounded in northern Gaza when a convoy of trucks carrying humanitarian aid reached Gaza City, where a starving crowd had amassed near the coast. Israel immediately denied responsibility for the casualties, releasing edited drone footage purporting to show that its forces “didn’t open fire on those seeking aid” and shot only at “several individuals” who “posed a threat”; instead, Israel accused the Palestinians of “trampling other Gazans to death.” However, testimonies gathered by +972 Magazine from Palestinians who survived what they are calling the “starvation massacre” describe Israeli forces opening fire indiscriminately on the crowd.
