حکومت اسلامی و ولایت فقیه از جمله آرزوهائی بود که خمینی داشت. حکومت اسلامی نه تنها برای سلطه بر ایران، بلکه حکومتی که با استفاده از کلیه قوانین اسلامی بتواند جهان را تحت سلطه خود داشته باشد، از اهداف او بود. گر چه حکومت جهان شمول بارها و بارها توسط سلاطین و قدرتمندان آزمایش شده و چنین رژیمی‌ آرزوی هر دیکتاتوری است، ولی‌ هیچگاه جامه عمل بخود نپوشانده است؛ و تا زمانیکه در دنیا اختلافات نژادی، اقتصادی، عقیدتی، بویژه تفاوت‌های مذهبی‌ حکمفرماست، تحقق چنین هدفی‌ امکان پذیر نیست. در وسائل ارتباط جمعی‌ برون مرزی بسیار شنیده‌ایم که خمینی را به عنوان آدمی ساده‌لوح، و در عین حال شیّادی معرفی‌ میکنند که آنچه که پیش از انقلاب گفته بود با رفتارش پس از انقلاب بسیار تفاوت داشت. این عده معتقدند که او همین‌که به قدرت رسید از مقام خود سؤ استفاده کرد و ملت را به بند کشید. با نگاهی‌ به گوشه‌ای از سخنان خمینی که پیش از انقلاب و اندکی‌ پس از انقلاب، در کتابی‌ توسط حمید اَلگار جمع آوری شده است، میتوانیم به صحت یا کذب این ادعا پی ببریم.

“When Henry Luce penned ‘the American Century’ in February 1941, there was much to be worried about, both in the United States and in the world.”(1) David Mason is speaking of the Second World War and US economy of the early to mid-century. However, as Henry Luce foresaw, 20^th century turned out to be an American Century, and what he might not have predicted that the same century ended to be as such, at least for the second half of the century. In his book, David Mason details the reasons he believes that American century had completed its course in the final years of the century and the 21^st century would definitely be the demise of the US imperialism. Government after government, since the beginning of this nation, had worked hard in order for the US leadership to become a reality. “Why does a strong nation strike against a weaker one? Usually because it seeks to impose its ideology, increase its power, or gain control of valuable resources. Shifting combination of these three factors motivated the United States as it extended its global reach over the past century and more.”(2) After beginning with such introduction, Kinzer accounts for the overthrow of the governments in Hawaii, Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and CIA sponsored or encouraged overthrow of the governments of Nicaragua, Honduras, Iran, Guatemala, South Vietnam, Chile, Granada, Panama, Afghanistan, and Iraq, through coups d'état and other means. Of course Libya and Syria are missing from this list, as the book predates those operations. When Tom Paine distributed his revolutionary “Common Sense” in early 1776, he advocated a separate and self-governing state for the territories with the acknowledgement of the role of the government: “Society in every state is a blessing, but Government even in its best state is but a necessary evil.”(3) Whether it is the government that becomes corrupted, due to its enormous power and wealth, or those who represent a government, can be interpreted variedly in each society. “The problem of democracy in the post-Revolutionary society was not, however, the Constitutional limitation on voting. It lay deeper, beyond the Constitution, in the division of society into rich and poor.”(4) When the rich is running the government, a class society based on wealth is the outcome. “The United States was the richest country in the world, with 5 percent of the earth’s population yet consuming 30 percent of what was produced worldwide. But only a tiny portion of the American population benefited; this richest 1 percent of the population saw its wealth increase enormously starting in the late 1970s. As a result of changes in the tax structure, by 1995 that richest 1 percent had gained over $1 trillion and now owned over 40 percent of the nation’s wealth.”(5) In order for those who are wealthy in this country to consume 25 percent more of the share of global production, a massive army and a tested tactic are needed. Every elected official in the high office, Democrat or Republican, has maintained these two important factors.

Iran is an ancient country with a long history. “In geological terms, the Iranian plateau is late formation. As late as the Mesozoic era, most of the land was covered by a large sea called the Sea of Tetis. This sea eventually was drained and its remainders became the Caspian and the Black Sea. The lasting effect of the Tetis has been the persistence of salt deserts in Iran and the existence of at least one highly condensed salt lake, Urumiyah. Caspian, the largest lake in the world, also has one of the highest amounts of salt in cubic meter in the world.”(1) Before the government of Iran was established in this region, there had been several other governments in various parts of today’s Iran, and beyond. “The country called Iran is only a part of the historical domain of Iranian cultural.... Historically, people of modern Iran, Afghanistan, Central Asia, western Pakistan, Caucasus, Iraq, and southern coast of the Persian Gulf have at one point or another been part of the greater Iranian cultural domain. This culture has not been necessarily centred in Iran, and thus does not; in anyway, suggest a chauvinistic or nationalistic view. It is indeed true that many times during the history of Iran and its people, the centres of Iranian culture, and even political power, have lied outside its current borders.”(2)

برنامه من این است: که صبح که بیدار میشوم برای کار روزانه در اداره خود را آماده میسازم. هر روز باید عجله کنم، چرا که مدیرم باید مرا قبل از دیگران ببیند و پندارد که من در کارم بسیار کوشا هستم و زودتر از همکارانم به اداره میروم، و این به ارتقائ مقام من کمک می‌کند. اکثر مواقع، ترافیک خیابانها بسیار سنگین است و مجبور میشوم در مسابقهٔ جلو زدن که در خیابانهای شهر رواج  دارد شرکت کنم. لباس دیروز را نمیتوانم مجددا بپوشم و در کمد به دنبال لباس تمیزی که قبلا نپوشیده بودم میگردم. سعئ می‌کنم بخاطر بیاورم که چه ادکلنی را روز پیش استفاده کرده بودم که مجددا آنرا استفاده نکنم و بوی خوش جدیدی به مشام همکارانم برسد. برای ناهار عموما با رئیسم وقت میگذرانم و همراه او و تعداد دیگری از همکاران به رستورانی میرویم که انتخاب اوست. چون رئیسم به ورزش علاقمند است، شبها آخرین اخبار ورزشی را تعقیب می‌کنم که بتوانم موقع ناهار با او راجع به آخرین اخبار ورزشی صحبت کنم. خیلی‌ زود متوجه شدم که او دوست دارد که تیم مورد علاقه‌اش را دیگری انتخاب نکرده باشد تا بتواند راجع به آن تیم غلو کند. ولی‌ مدتی‌ طول کشید تا توانستم دومین تیم مورد علاقه‌اش را کشف کنم و آنرا به عنوان تیم مورد محبوب خودم معرفی‌ کنم. چون به بحث در مورد تیم مورد نظرش بسیار لذت میبرد، همیشه در مورد بازی‌هائی که هر دو دیده ایم بحث می‌کنیم و من سعی‌ می‌کنم که از تیم مقابل طرفداری کنم که بتوانم بحث پر شوری با او داشته باشم. البته در خاتمهٔ بحث دلایل او مرا قانع میکنند! دو سه نفر دیگر هم با ما غذا میخورند، و ما عموما صحبتهائی را که رئیسمان به آنها علاقه دارد به پیش میکشیم. آخر وقت، مدتی‌ بیشتر از دیگران در اتاق کارم می‌مانم تا مورد توجه رئیسم قرار بگیرم. به خانه که میرسم کاملا خسته ام، ولی‌ باید به درس و مشق پسرم کمک کنم. همیشه به او میگویم که باید سعی‌ کند که از دیگر همکلاسی هایش در درس جلوتر باشد تا بتواند آینده موفقی‌ داشته باشد.

American Revolution of two and a half centuries ago ignited many other revolutions around the globe, notably the French, the Russian, the Cuban, and the Chinese revolutions. Each one of these, and many other revolutions, changed the social, political, economic, and geographical landscapes of the world. One of these revolutions that dates back to 36 years ago has not been in the news recently, but its impacts come to the surface every once in a while. In the last decade we have been noticing interaction between the western governments and this government, with a wide and increasing global impact. The nuclear issue with Iran is the latest of many issues that have occurred since the 1979 revolution, after the hostage crisis, Iran-Contra affair, and the war with Iraq, just to name a few.

The world is currently going through an energy crisis as we use more unsustainable energy sources, such as coal, oil, and gas. This is strongly contributing to global warming as our earth is put into a positive feedback loop of increasing the overall temperature every day. For this reason, we need people studying the climate, analyzing the contributing factors to global warming, and developing efficient and renewable energy resources, like wind and solar powers. My major in college is Environmental Earth Science with a concentration in Climate Change Studies. My goal is to work somewhere in this field of study because I have a strong passion to return our planet to a more healthy state. Also, I want future generations to not have to suffer for our mistakes. After my undergraduate degree I plan to get my master’s/PhD in a more specified area of study and work towards bettering our planet from the catastrophe it is facing now.

نگاهی‌ به “نگاهی‌ به شاه”

نسخه‌ فارسی کتاب عباس میلانی در مورد زندگی‌ شاه حدود یک سال و نیم پیش در کانادا انتشار یافت. از آنجائی که کتاب تاریخی‌ است، هیچوقت کهنه نمی‌شود، مگر آنکه مدارک جدیدی ارائه شود که مستندات کتاب را تکمیل و یا نقض نماید. ترجمه فارسی این کتاب با نسخه‌ انگلیسی‌ِ همین کتاب که پیشتر چاپ شده بود تفاوت‌هایی دارد، چنانچه در خود این کتاب نویسنده به مواردی اشاره می‌کند که مطالب نسخه‌ انگلیسی‌ را تکمیل، تعدیل، و یا تکذیب می‌نماید. به نظر می‌رسد که نویسنده مدارک و اسناد بیشماری را جمع آوری، و تا آنجائی که در اختیاراتش بوده است آنها را با مدارک و اسناد دیگری مطابقت کرده است. کتاب در حقیقت بصورت یک زندگینامه پرداخته شده است که پس از فصل کوتاهی‌ در مورد آخرین مهاجرت شاه تحت عنوان “هلندی سرگردان”، از فصل دوم و از تولد محمد رضا پهلوی آغاز میشود. داستان این زندگی‌ با مرگ او در فصل آخر کتاب پایان می‌ابد. گرچه در فصول پایانی کتاب، میلانی نظر خود را در مورد دلایل پیدایش انقلاب ایران به رشته تحریر در میاورد؛ من حیث‌المجموع این کتاب مانند سایر کتب تاریخی‌ نگرش نویسنده را از تاریخ بیان می‌کند، بویژه که گاه و بیگاه میلانی نظرات شخصی‌ خود را با همین عنوان آشکار میسازد. به عنوان نمونه زمانیکه از پایان جنگ دوم جهانی‌ و تقسیم مناطق زیر نفوذ بین شوروی و آمریکا و انگلیس سخن میگوید، که ساعد و فروغی که حامل پیامی از طرف رضا شاه برای سفیر انگلیس بودند و به‌جای حمایت از رضا شاه استعفای او را مطرح میکنند، میلانی چنین نظر میدهد: “در اینجا گریزی از این پرسش نیست که آیا اگر فروغی و ساعد به جای شکایت از رضا شاه صرفا پیام او را به سفارت انگلستان میرساندند تغییری در سرنوشت رضا شاه ایجاد میشد؟... با تامل در نقش یک یک این افراد در تحولات آن زمان شاید این واقعیت بیشتر در ذهن ما ایرانیان جای بیفتد که خارجی‌ها همواره با تکیه به خود ما امیال و اهداف خود را متحقق میکنند و نقش خود ما در رقم زدن رخدادهای تاریخی‌ مهمتر از تسکین کاذب برخاسته از تئوری توطئه هست که ‘ما را بی‌ نقش و بی‌ گناه’ و آنها را قدر قدرت و گناهکار جلوه میدهد.” (۹۱) اینگونه آب توبه ریختن بر سر سه امپریالیست جهانگیر آن زمان، یعنی‌ شوروی و آمریکا و انگلیس، در سایر آثار استغفار گونه میلانی، بویژه در ‘تجدد و تجدد ستیزی در ایران’ آشکار است. در این مورد در پایانِ این نوشتار سخن بیشتری خواهد رفت.

استوانه فرمان کوروش

متن استوانه کوروش در وبسایت ها و وبلاگ‌ها و برخی کتب ایرانی به نحوه های مختلفی بازتاب داده شده است. برخی از ترجمه ها (باید بگوییم اکثر ترجمه ها) ارتباطی با متن اصلی ندارند و حاصل تخیل برخی نویسندگان معاصر هستند. این استوانه تاکنون توسط سه پژوهشگر ایرانی به صورت مستقیم از روی متن بابلی به زبان فارسی ترجمه شده است:

۱- دکتر عبدالمجید ارفعی-دکترای آشورشناسی از دانشگاه شیکاگو
۲- دکتر شاهرخ رزمجو-دکترای باستان شناسی از دانشگاه لندن و استاد دانشگاه تهران
۳- دکتر حسین بادامچی-دکترای آشورشناسی از دانشگاه جانزهاپکینز واشینگتن و استاد دانشگاه تهران

استوانه فرمان کوروش استوانه ای گِلین حاوی یک کتیبه سی و پنج سطری به زبان اَکَدی (زبان بابلی) است که در پای یک بنا توسط هرمزد رسام در طول کاووش های باستانشناسی معبد مردوک در بابل در سال ۱۸۷۹ کشف گردید. قطعه دوم که حاوی سطور ۳۶ تا ۴۵ بود، در مجموعه بابِلی دانشگاه یِیل توسط پروفسور بِرگر شناسایی گردید. بنابراین تمامی متن کتیبه حاوی ۴۵ سطر است که سه سطر نخست آن تقریباً به طور کامل از بین رفته و انتهای کتیبه هم ناقص است.

Cyrus Cylinder

According to Encyclopedia Iranica:

The Cyrus cylinder (British Museum, no. 90920; Walker, p. 158; Budge, pl. XL; Rawlinson, pl. 35) is a fragmentary clay cylinder with an Akkadian inscription of thirty-five lines discovered in a foundation deposit by A. H. Rassam during his excavations at the site of the Marduk temple in Babylon in 1879 (see Walker, p. 158, citing a letter from Rassam to the British Museum dated 20 November 1879). A second fragment, containing lines 36-45, was identified in the Babylonian collection at Yale University (Nies and Keiser, no. 32) by P.-R. Berger. The total inscription, though incomplete at the end, consists of forty-five lines, the first three almost entirely broken away.

I AM PUZZLED!

I am not really puzzled by the atrocities of governments as it has always been the case one way or another, but by people’s apathy, oblivion, ignorance, and indifference. For instance, in the last election of November 2014, which was considered the most expensive midterm election ever, and with the lowest ratio of participation, Republicans won both houses. This statement by itself proves how vital it is for people to participate. There also were widespread forms of voter suppression, another indicator that if people decide to participate in the election process and vote for alternatives, there is a large chance that they elect right candidates.

Another interesting YouTube clip is Michael Moore's Beat the Rich. He explains that most of the wealth of the world is concentrated in the hands of three people and he sets up a quiz like performance comparing the knowledge of the rich and the average person on the street. It is funny:
