The neutral, good offices convenor of Reagan-Gorbachev and Putin–Biden summits
is back in the headlines with trade talks between China and the United States.
“China–U.S. tariff talks place Swiss diplomacy on centre stage” boasted a local
website. But wait, isn’t the trade war between the United States and China a
clear violation of international norms codified at the World Trade Organization
(WTO)? Is the euphoria over the possibility of averting a global trade war and
recession actually undermining internationally accepted principles and
institutions of multilateralism such as the WTO based in Geneva?

US to use Gaza aid plan as 'bait to force displacement': UNICEF
Since
March, Israel has imposed a crippling aid blockade on Gaza as part of its
effort to starve Palestinians and ethnically cleanse them from the strip
Meta Undertakes “Sweeping Crackdown” of Facebook and Instagram Posts at Israel’s Request
Since October
7, 2023, the multinational tech company Meta, which owns Facebook and
Instagram, has acted on 94 percent of the Israeli government’s requests to take
down posts on Facebook and Instagram that are “critical of Israel—or even
vaguely supportive of Palestinians,” Drop Site News reported in April 2025.
Drop Site News characterized Meta’s response to the Israeli government’s
takedown request campaign as “the largest mass censorship operation in modern
history.”
