a porn star and to evade campaign financial regulations, speculation has begun
about his sentencing. Even though his outrageous behavior towards and slander
of the district attorney, the judge, the witnesses, and the jury should warrant
a punitive sentence, up to and including prison, it is highly unlikely that he
will spend any time in jail.

lay in pain on a bed at the Al-Awda Hospital in the Nuseirat refugee camp in
northern Gaza, the echoes of explosions and artillery fire could be heard all
around her. It was mid-January and she had made her way to the embattled
hospital to give birth to a baby girl she would name Mira. While Amal should
have been celebrating her infant’s delivery, instead she was engulfed in fear,
surrounded by the relentless nightmare of death and suffering that she and her
family had experienced for months.
“I was muttering
to myself, ‘I hope I die,’” she recalled.

Israeli military censor barred the publication of 613 articles by media outlets
in Israel, setting a new record for the period since +972 Magazine began
collecting data in 2011. The censor also redacted parts of a further 2,703
articles, representing the highest figure since 2014. In all, the military
prevented information from being made public an average of nine times a day.

(Informed Comment) – Iran’s Mehr News Service reported Monday morning Tehran
time that President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian
died Sunday in a helicopter crash in a remote area of Iran. They had been at
the border with the neighboring country of Azerbaijan to inaugurate a dam and
were going to Tabriz when the crash occurred because of bad weather. Iran has
two provinces also named Azerbaijan. The region was bifurcated in the early
nineteenth century when the Russian Empire conquered half of Iran’s Azerbaijan
and made it a Russian colony that became independent in 1991. The helicopter
crashed in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province.
