on education in 2022 and 2023, according to research published Thursday amid

America's Notorious 'Cancer Alley' Is Even More Toxic Than We Thought

Since the 1980s,
the 85-mile stretch of the Mississippi River that connects New Orleans and
Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has been known as “Cancer Alley.” The name stems from
the fact that the area’s residents have a 95% greater chance of developing
cancer than the average American. A big reason for this is the concentration of
industrial facilities along the corridor — particularly petrochemical
manufacturing plants, many of which emit ethylene oxide, an extremely potent
toxin that is considered a carcinogen by the Environmental Protection Agency
and has been linked to breast and lung cancers.

Gaza has captured the attention of the world, but nowhere in Palestine is safe
from Israel’s onslaught. Israeli repression, land grabs, and deadly raids in
the West Bank have increased dramatically since Oct. 7. Long subjected to a
brutal apartheid system and routine attacks from settlers and the IDF,
Palestinians in the West Bank now face a more aggravated Zionist threat than
before, with “no light at the end of the tunnel.” Palestinian-American
humanitarian Joyce Ajlouny, director of the American Friends Service Committee
(AFSC), joins The Marc Steiner Show to discuss her recent trip to Ramallah,
West Bank, her decades of on-the-ground humanitarian work in Palestine, and the
services AFSC aid workers continue to bravely provide to hundreds of thousands
of people under the worst of conditions.

Nuseirat took place in mid-day at a refugee camp, when the roads and markets
were packed with civilians, when children were playing, women doing their
shopping, and old men drinking their tea.

Republican and Democratic, have taken steps to control and limit the rights of
citizens to exercise free speech as well as freedom to travel and associate
freely. This abuse of power, for that is what it is, has unfortunately
escalated sharply due to the uncompromising commitment of the Joe Biden White
House to both Israel and Ukraine. It manifests itself in many ways, but most
often includes steps to make it difficult for concerned Americans to learn for
themselves the truth about what is taking place in the various international
hot spots that the US State Department appears to be cultivating in such a
fashion as to bring the world to the brink of nuclear war.
