Chicago (Special to Informed Comment; Feature) – Back when I was an actor, I used to wait tables at the Divine Bar in Manhattan. We had a location right near the World Trade Center. One day after September 11, 2001, we had to evacuate the restaurant during lunch service. A human ear had been found on the building’s scaffolding.

Israel prepared to attack Iran without US – Netanyahu
The Israeli prime minister has pledged to overthrow Tehran’s government and made striking first a central principle of his security doctrine
Portents of Yet Another U.S. Debacle in Iran?
Eve Ottenberg
Donald “Blockade Everybody” Trump has said he is waiting till after the midterms to attack Iran again. This assault, he vows, will be the biggest blitz of the Iran War (though more recently he downplays the whole putative project), and he even rumbles that U.S. forces may invade (Ho! Ho!) But if it is the biggest, so will be Tehran’s response: so Israel would get barbecued, the remaining U.S. bases in the region would be obliterated, zero, zilch, nada, zip oil would leave the region and maybe an American aircraft carrier or two would be sunk. For all these reasons, Trump’s threatened blitzkrieg would be lunacy, and is very unlikely ever to happen. It’s such obvious lunacy, especially given that Tehran has defeated Washington pretty consistently so far, that one must wonder if this appearance of insanity isn’t the point, namely Richard Nixon’s “madman” approach to foreign policy.

The Geopolitical Earthquake of the Iran War
John Feffer
The Iran War has claimed thousands of lives, most of them in Iran itself. The war has cost Iran as much as $300 billion in economic damage. For its part, the Pentagon spent nearly $44 billion through mid-September to wreak that amount of havoc. For advocates of the war—but no one else—that’s a good return on investment.
Trump’s Destruction of the National Security Process
Melvin Goodman
In 1947, the U.S. Congress passed the National Security Act, which created the National Security Council, the Department of Defense, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Central Intelligence Agency. These institutions were often misused during the worst days of the Cold War and, more recently, in the Global War on Terror. Nevertheless, there are historical records on the decision making that took place, and there were successes in such fields as arms control and disarmament as well as the building of national security alliances in Europe and Asia.

“The School That Became a Grave”: Jeremy Scahill on U.S Bombing of Minab, Killing 120+ Iranian Kids
Drop Site News released a major investigation this week into the U.S. bombing of the Shajareh Tayyebeh children’s school in the Iranian city of Minab on February 28, the first day of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. Drop Site spoke to survivors, first responders, parents and witnesses in one of the most in-depth reports on the massacre to date. The bombing killed at least 156 people — 120 of the victims were children, 26 were teachers, and the rest were parents. A United Nations fact-finding mission recently concluded that the U.S. strike was a war crime, but the Trump administration has not yet even acknowledged U.S. responsibility.

Marxian Ecology and the Critique of AI Capital
In addressing Marxian ecology and the critique of the fetishism of so-called artificial intelligence or AI, it is important to place this in the context of the present age of accumulation under monopoly-finance capital. The rise of AI capital does not represent, as contemporary ideology would have us believe, a new, technologically determined, rationally organized capitalist system, to which it is useless to offer resistance.1 Rather, today’s alienated AI capital constitutes an irrational shift from order to disorder in human ecological and social relations on the local, global, and planetary levels. Not only does computational capitalism promise to disrupt the entire work environment, pointing to growing joblessness and increased exploitation, exacerbating class and imperial polarization on a global basis, but we are seeing, even more ominously, a further rupture in the human relation to the earth of which humanity is itself an emergent part.
