Over the past several months, the editorial board of the Washington Post  has moved steadily to the right, endorsing greater defense budgets, the use of military force, and even making a case for the U.S. military to return to its largest air base in Afghanistan.  In a recent editorial, “How to live in our nuclear ‘House of Dynamite’,” the Post has reversed a long-standing position in order to endorse the building of the Golden Dome national missile defense. The system could take more than a decade to build and require more than $1 trillion in funding.

نخست به این بی‌اندیشیم که این واژه چه معنایی دارد. در لغت‌نامهٔ دهخدا تعاریف بیشماری برای واژهٔ جنگ آمده است، از جمله جدال، قتال، کارزار، ستیزه، نبرد، ناورد، پیکار، غزوه، حرب، و رزم. به نظر نمی‌رسد که هیچ‌یک از این تعاریف کشتار گروهی توسط گروه دیگر را بیان کند؛ شاید فقط رزم این معنی را تداعی کند. بطور کلی‌ جنگ به معنای این است که گروهی دانش می‌آموزند و عملا تعلیم می‌بینند، و حتی تمرین می‌کنند، که چگونه گروه دیگری را بکشند. در زمان‌های پیشین این وحشی‌گری رودررو و بصورت فردی با خنجر و شمشیر و آلات و ادوات فلزی انجام میشد. ولی‌ امروزه دشمنان یکدیگر را نمی‌بینند و کُشتار بصورت پرتاب بمب و موشک و سلاح‌های شیمیای انجام می‌پذیرد، و صدمات چند برابر بیش از گذشته است. نمونهٔ آن را می‌توانیم امروزه در غزّه مشاهده کنیم.ا

• Gaza residents say they fear a return to Israel’s full-scale bombing as they struggle to find food, water and medicine during the US-brokered truce.
• Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 68,858 people and wounded 170,664 since it began in October 2023. A total of 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks and about 200 taken captive.
