Ann Arbor (Informed Comment) – Julian Borger at The Guardian reports that the first verified case of type 2 poliovirus in 25 years in Gaza, in a baby, has resulted in the paralysis of the infant. It is only the first of many if the UN is not allowed to administer vaccines to 650,000 children in the Strip, which will definitely require a ceasefire. The Israeli authorities are refusing to consider this step.

They were searching for her son Basel, whom they beat along with her other son, saying they would all “pay the price for supporting Hamas.” It was a claim Barghouti was familiar with: Her husband Mahmoud is currently being held in an Israeli prison for the same unsubstantiated charge, as he has been on and off for 10 of the last 30 years.

The Israel Defense Forces has decided to downsize the Oketz unit, Unit 7142, ahead of its cancellation. The unit for dogs and their trainers has been suffering from a shortage recently. Quite a number of dogs have been killed in the Gaza Strip, and it was therefore decided to use cheaper, more efficient means. It turns out that the new unit, which has yet to be given a name by the IDF computer, brings the same operational results. There’s no need to train dogs for months, no need for the iron muzzles that shut their frightening jaws, and their food will be cheaper,pp too: Instead of expensive Bonzo dog food, leftovers from battle rations.
