addressing Marxian ecology and the critique of the fetishism of so-called
artificial intelligence or AI, it is important to place this in the context of
the present age of accumulation under monopoly-finance capital. The rise of AI
capital does not represent, as contemporary ideology would have us believe, a
new, technologically determined, rationally organized capitalist system, to
which it is useless to offer resistance.1 Rather, today’s alienated AI capital constitutes an
irrational shift from order to disorder in human ecological and social
relations on the local, global, and planetary levels. Not only does
computational capitalism promise to disrupt the entire work environment,
pointing to growing joblessness and increased exploitation, exacerbating class
and imperial polarization on a global basis, but we are seeing, even more
ominously, a further rupture in the human relation to the earth of which
humanity is itself an emergent part.

Arbor (Informed Comment) – I was a little surprised to see that the Vietnamese
internet news agency Vietnam.vn has an Arabic service. It carried an article
yesterday from the newspaper Báo Tiền Phong on the complete US
military withdrawal from Iraq. The ironies are many. I am in my 70s now, so I
well remember the disastrous final US withdrawal from Vietnam in 1975 during
the presidency of Gerald Ford, our only unelected president. The war was really
over with in 1973, or maybe even in 1971, but Richard Milhous Nixon and Henry
Kissinger were afraid to bring home 500,000 men suddenly, thinking that it
could lead to public disorder. So they ended the war in dribs and drabs over
several years. The soldiers they sent to die in a southeast Asian jungle for
nothing were of so little value to them that they preferred to see them go on
being in danger of their lives than to risk that they might, on their return,
join a *gasp* protest. So much for the First Amendment.

Murray The
institutions of international law have failed, as deeply shocking things have
happened these past three years as conscious acts of western governments acting
in unison. The Genocide in Gaza is only the most obvious.

Oil prices retreated on Thursday after climbing 4% in the previous session as
Iran said it remained open to diplomacy to end the US-Iran war, though the two
countries remain far apart on ways to do so.

Iran’s revenues, but Tehran still decides how the burden is shared. Fuel hikes,
weak price controls, and scarce currency for luxury imports risk shifting costs
onto ordinary households instead of those higher up the economic ladder.
9/21/2026 Joan Robinson We are sitting around discussing
ideas totally beside the point. The important question is not whether the rate
of inflation is high or low or can be brought under control but whether our
generation will succeed in destroying the world. We are seeing the supply of
arms pile up as the Americans and Soviets advance from one missile system to
the next. This same threat lies before the next generation. We should realize
that the stockpiling of destruction precedes discussion of inflation and
unemployment. The arms race is too serious a matter for us to be content to
dispute economic theories that float off into the stratosphere.
