Copernicus: June 2024 marks 12th month of global temperature reaching 1.5°C above pre-industrial
The Copernicus
Climate Change Service (C3S), implemented by the European Centre for
Medium-Range Weather Forecasts on behalf of the European Commission with
funding from the EU, routinely publishes monthly climate bulletins reporting on
the changes observed in global surface air and sea temperatures, sea ice cover
and hydrological variables. Additionally, the bulletin also includes highlights
regarding the boreal spring (March-April-May). Most of the reported findings
are based on the ERA5 reanalysis dataset, using billions of measurements from
satellites, ships, aircraft and weather stations around the world.

The Gaza Genocide: Who’s Complicit?
July 8, 2024
Given the recent
pro-Palestinian protests around the world and on many university campuses, it
seems strange if not surprising that neither genocide nor the continuing flow
of U.S. weapons to Israel were mentioned during the first (and maybe only) 2024
presidential debate. Nor did the New York Times Editorial Board see fit to cite
complicity in genocide while calling for Biden to step down after his poor
debate performance.

Through April,
the IDF had targeted more than 32,000 military sites belonging to Hamas and its
allies. In June, Israel announced that 15,000 of the group's militants had been eliminated. But experts are certain
those measures won’t eradicate the Islamic group that has been in charge of

As Israel Refuses to End Genocide in Gaza, Threat of War With Hezbollah Looms
July 2, 2024
For the past
eight months, Hezbollah has attacked the northern portion of Israel in an
attempt to pull the Israeli army out from Gaza, reports Al Jazeera. Fears of a
wider war have prompted international calls to deescalate the situation at the
border between Lebanon and Israel. During a recent meeting with Israeli Defense
Minister Yoav Gallant, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters that
the U.S. is “urgently seeking a diplomatic agreement that restores lasting calm
to Israel’s northern border and enables civilians to return safely to their
homes on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border.” The U.S. is also preparing
to be ready to evacuate tens of thousands of Americans who live in Lebanon in
the event of war.

Black Liberation and Palestinian Liberation Are Interconnected
June 17, 2024
From Detroit to
Cleveland to Gaza, and everywhere in between, we must fight for a world built
on equal rights, freedom from oppression, and human dignity for all people. In
the words of civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer, “Nobody’s free until
everybody’s free.” The collective liberation of oppressed people everywhere is
intertwined, and we must come together to fight for justice at home and around
the world.
