مارک در حالیکه با بی اشتهایی به ظرف صبحانه‌اش نگاه میکرد با اعتراض پرسید “فرنیِ سرد بجای صبحانه؟” مادرش گفت “اینقدر ایراد گیر نباش. فقط تو یکی‌ داری اعتراض میکنی‌.” در حقیقت این حرفِ منصفانه ای نبود چرا که او و مارک تنها کسانی بودند که سر سفرهٔ صبحانه نشسته بودند. هرییِت رفته بود خانه یکی‌ از همکلاسی‌هایش و سرخک گرفته بود، و آقای آرمیتاژ بغفلت در گنجهٔ قفل شده حبس شده بود. خانم آرمیتاژ هم که به هرحال هیچوقت بغیر از نان و مارمالاد چیز دیگری روی میز صبحانه نمیگذاشت. مارک همینطور با اخم به فرنی سرد نگاه میکرد. این تنها صبحانه ای بود که در گنجه نبود، و همان موقع از یخچال بیرون آمده بود.

THE GRAND DESIGN

Our vision of the future is the most important characteristic that separates us from

other living organisms. We visualize a situation or a condition based on understanding of our surroundings and our knowledge of the past. We are certain that nothing lasts forever, and not only living organisms are mortal, so are other matters such as rocks and liquids. The only difference is the time that it takes for each object to decay. We know by experience that it takes milk two hours to spoil in room temperature; and it takes a plastic bottle one million years to decompose. In general, rates of change are different for each object. Therefore, change is a certainty, but the method and time of change varies. We may expand this to our galaxy and our universe and our world as a whole. Equipped with historical knowledge of our galaxy, our universe, and the events that started our world, scientists can draw a picture of the condition that determines fate of our world. Depending on how the beginning is theorized, the future can be predicted as the continuation of the same process. Some scientists have come to the conclusion that everything started at the point of the Big Bang, and anything prior to that event is dismissed as irrelevant. A few disregard the idea of the Big Bang, for a supreme munificent that created everything for a purpose not disclosed to us. Fewer scientists believe that the creator had designed everything, and the Big Bang was a part of such design. Some, including Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow, speculate that it was designed by a scientifically conceivable natural and logical process, without interference by any supreme being.

نقد دو کتاب جرج ارول: مزرعه حیوانات و ۱۹۸۴**

در سال ۱۹۸۴ مردم در سراسر جهان، در جستجوی یک کتاب قدیمی که در دبیرستان خوانده بودند به فروشگاه های کتاب هجوم بردند. عنوان کتاب هزار و نهصد و هشتاد و چهار (۱۹۸۴) بود و به نظر مردم خنده آور میرسید که چگونه جورج اورول میتوانست در  پیش بینی‌هایش چنین اشتباه گزافی کرده باشد. آنها به اشتباهاتی که در این کتاب وجود داشت میخندیدند، و به خصوص خوشحال بودند که دولت‌هایشان هیچ شباهتی به رژیمی‌ که ارول در این کتاب توصیف میکرد نداشتند. این ساده نگریِ مردم به راستی‌ مانند شخصیتهای کتاب ۱۹۸۴بود؛ چرا که آنها به دشواری‌ می‌توانستند نزولِ دولت را به سوی استبداد تشخیص دهند. دنیائی که در این کتاب ترشیم شده است در سال ۲۰۱۴ کاملا قابل لمس است. درست مانند "تِله‌سکرین"، مردم امروز از طریق دوربین های امنیتی، اینترنت، و تهدید جدید “اِن.اِس.اِ” کنترل، و کوچکترین جنبهٔ زندگی‌ افراد زیر نظر دولت است. کسی‌ در امریکا برای انتقاد به سیاستهای دولت کشته نمی‌شود، اما دولت آمریکا می تواند یک فرد را به دلیل یک تهدید، و یا به عنوان یک تروریست برای همیشه به زندان خلیج گوانتانامو بفرستد. وزارت عشق در رمان خیالی از سرنوشت زندانیان  در گوانتانامو سخن میگوید: مردم داخل میشوند و هیچگاه بر نمیگردند، و کسی‌ جرأت ندارد از دولت بپرسد که بر سر آنها چه رفته است. تعطیلات و جشنهای ما بدین منظور بنا شده‌اند که مشقات زندگی را، مانند آنهایی که در ۱۹۸۴آمده است، برای مدت کوتاهی‌ فراموش کنیم. هر چه بیشتر این کتاب اورول مطالعه شود شباهت‌های بیشتری با زندگی‌ امروزه یافت میشوند. برخی ممکن است ادعا کنند که اتفاقاتی مشابه حوادث ۱۹۸۴برای افرادی هوشمند مثل جامعه ما رخ نخواهد داد، اما شاید این واقعیت که ما فکر می کنیم ما را نمی شود فریب داد مستمسکی است در دست دولت برای تحمیق ما.

Book Review by Nat F- George Orwell's "1984" and "Animal Farm"

In the year 1984 across the world, people flooded book stores in search of an old book they remembered that they had read in high school. The title of the book was Nineteen Eighty-Four and everyone thought it was so funny to see how wrongly George Orwell had predicted the way the world would be by that year. They laughed at the inaccuracies, and especially, they were glad to note that their government was nothing like the one in the book. Much like the characters of the book 1984, the people failed to see how the government had changed for the worst. The progression towards a world like that of the book is even worse now in 2014. Much like the “telescreens” that watch a person’s every movement in their life, the people of today are monitored through security cameras, the internet, and the new threat, the NSA. You won’t be killed in America for simply denouncing the country, but the America government can deem a person as a threat or a terrorist and throw that person in Guantanamo Bay if they don’t want them here. The Ministry of Love from the fictitious novel comes to life in Guantanamo Bay: people go in and never leave and no one is supposed to question the government about what happens. We have holidays and celebrations that make us forget the hardships of life like the ones in 1984. The more times you read Orwell’s book, the more connections you find. Some may claim that as a people, we are much too smart to let something like the events in 1984 happen, but perhaps the fact that we think we can’t be fooled is what the government uses to fool us.

A Forbidden City

Imperial Beach is the name of the most southern beach in California, about three miles north of the border with Mexico. Approximately 40 miles into the ocean, on the north-west of Coronado islands, there is a small island of about 50 square miles, commonly referred to as “The Loony land”. Like most of the Pacific islands, it has tropical climate with unusual (as people in other islands would call it) vegetation. This island, once inhabited by natives (who totally vanished after an outbreak of an epidemic disease) belongs to the US government, and it is used to house certain deportees. Connection to this island is only by boat, and for those arriving here, it has so far been just a one-way route. Once a month, US Coastguard transports a fresh group of deportees to the island and returns with crews only, since no one can ever leave or escape from this island. Transportation of any kind, an automobile, a boat or an air transporter, is not available to inhabitants. The island has been growing in population in the past ten years and it is estimated to have reached a population of about 65,000 people, although no one knows the exact number. No census has ever been taken, nor is there any polling to gauge social and economic life of the people. There are roads and shops and factories and other buildings, but not any government establishment. In the absence of a local government, there is no need for administrative officials such as police force or tax collectors. Inhabitants of the island live in such a way that would not entice any outsider a desire to eye on their material possession, neither is any competition for wealth (or anything else for that matter) among the islanders. The island is encased with barbed-wires and surrounding water is patrolled by the US Coastguard 24/7. 

کاش همه مثل من فکر میکردن

اگه همه مثل من فکر میکردن چه دنیائی میشد. اشکال کار اینه که مردم خودشون نمیدونن چطوری فکر کنن که رهنمودِ آینده بهتری براشون بشه. اگه فکراشون‌رو روهم بزارن و دسته‌جمعی فکر کنن، (البته با طرز فکری که می‌خوام توضیح بدم) می‌تونن شرایط زندگیشون رو عوض کنن. امیدوارم که حمل بر خودخواهی من نشه! هیچ قصد ندارم که خودم را بالا ببرم و بقیه رو پائین، ولی‌ بعضیها خیلی‌ پَرت هستن! مثلا اونائی که طرفدار رژیم اسلامی هستن. فکر می‌کنین چند در صد مردم رو تشکیل میدن؟ خوب، این بستگی داره که چقدر طرفدار باشن. مثلا اونایی‌ که معمم هستن، حتما به نفعشونه که با رژیم اسلامی همکاری کنن. میدونم که رهبر طرفدار زیادی بین آخوندا نداره. ولی‌ اگه رژیم بیفته و یه رژیم مردمی سر کار بیاد فکر نمیکنید نون همه آخوندا آجر بشه؟ بنابراین دعوا سر قدرت گرفتن داخلِ رژیمه، و هیچکدوم از مخالفینِ معمم با عوض شدنِ رژیم به یه رژیمِ سکولار موافق نیستن، حتی اگه الآن تو حبس باشن. بنابراین، اونایی که میخوان رژیم عوض بشه باید تعداد موافق و مخالف را ارزیابی کنن و بعد برای بقیهِ توطئه براندازی برنامه ریزی کنن. از اونجایی که اطلاعاتِ آماری در مورد تعداد معممین، تعداد افراد نیروهای مسلح، تعداد وابستگان به رژیم، و اطلاعاتی‌ از این دست یا وجود نداره و یا افشا نمیشه، نمیتونیم به تعداد مشخصی‌ دسترسی پیدا کنیم. اما با صحبت با مردمِ توی کوچه و خیابون میشه به یه رقم تخمینی رسید. البته میدونیم که بعضی از مردم شخصیت یه  آفتاب پرست رو دارن! یعنی‌ با رنگِ محیط رنگ عوض می‌کنن؛ که البته گاهی‌ به دلیل منافع شخصیه، ولی‌ معمولا به خاطر همرنگ شدن با بقیه‌است. بنابراین میشه گفت که با یه برنامهِ پروپاگاندای قوی میشه اکثر مردم رو تو خیابون آورد.

New Year

It is a part of evolution to look forward to new ideas, new structures, new materials, new seasons, and new years. Forward thinking is what makes us improve our lives, from living in caves into modern homes and fast transportation and real-time communication. We consider those who maintain old ideas and those who try to conserve old traditions, old fashioned. Sometimes, those with “the good old days” philosophy find ways in which they can continue “the good old days” dressed in new styles. For instance, if slavery is crime of the past, it continues under new terms such as day laborers, seasonal workers, and migrant workers. Then, there is the rest of the world to keep the populations under dictatorship and subjugated, while their natural resources are robbed from them. There are new terms to explain it too; such as NAFTA, PTT, and The New World Order.

صلح یا جنگ- بخش پایانی

پایان جنگ:

جنگها علاوه بر خساراتی که به مناطق حمله شده تحمیل میکنند، هزینه هائی نیز برای مهاجم در بر دارند. گرچه صلح خسارتی به بار نمی‌آورد ولی‌ جوینده صلح هزینه‌های گزافی را متحمل میشود. این هزینه‌ها، که در بیشتر مواقع هزینه‌های غیر مادی و معنوی میباشند به طرق مختلف، از جمله از دست دادن مقام و مورد هدف گرفتن آماج حمله های افراد پُر نفوذ و قدرت و در مقامهای سیاسی و لشگری، از طرف صلح‌جویان پرداخت میشود. گروهی طرفدار صلح هستند بدون اینکه خود آگاه باشند! دوست بسیار نزدیک و مهربانی دارم که خود را همواره از چشمِ دیگران می‌بیند. بدین عبارت که او دارای شخصیت شاخص و کمیابی است که آشنایانش متّفق‌القول به او نسبت میدهند، و آن کمک به دیگران و هموار کردنِ راه و اجازهٔ عبور دادن به کسانی است که در چهار راه حوادث با او بر خورد میکنند. او از هرگونه برخورد خصمانه ای ممانعت می‌کند و با صورتی‌ خندان افرادی را که با او در مناظره هستند به چالش نمی‌گیرد. برای او لذتِ سازش بیش از لذت پیروزی پس از یک بحث، مقابله، یا احیاناً مجادله است. گرچه او هیچگاه به حرکات خصمانه نمی‌اندیشد، ولی‌ بردباری بسیاری برای تحمل خصم دارد. ممکن است این بردباری و تحملِ خشونتِ دیگران صدمات هنگفتی به شخص متحمل بزند، که در مورد این دوستِ عزیز، او جای پای این رنجها را به صورت دردهای مختلف فیزیکی‌ حسّ می‌کند. برای شناخت عشقِ او به صلح و دوستی‌، چندی پیش او از یکی‌ از گفته های “رُمان رولان” نقل قول میکرد که گویا در کتاب “جان شیفته” آمده بود. دوست من از زبانِ “رمان رولان” میگفت که زمانی‌که یک ذرهٔ میکروسکوپیِ ماسه داخلِ یک صدف میشود، محتملاً وجود این عنصر خارجی‌ برای صدف بسیار ناخوش‌آیند میاید. ولی‌ این موجود لطیف آن ماسه را با بردباری در لایه‌های بدن خود میپروراند و تبدیل به مروارید می‌کند. گرچه این مروارید برای انسانها ارزش مادی دارد (و همین مروارید انسانها را به کِشت صدف ترغیب می‌کند)، در عین حال صدف را نیز با این پوشش کَلسیُمی از رنجش و آزردگی که ذره شن یا ماسه ایجاد می‌کند محفوظ میدارد. بنابراین، دوست عزیزم ابراز میکرد که یک عنصر ناخوشایند یا نامطلوب را می‌توان با بردباری به عنصری ارزشمند تبدیل کرد؛ و او خود نمونه ای از این گفتار است.

Adam Smith is Rolling in His Grave!

Is the “free enterprise system” that brought fame to Adam Smith and his revolutionary book “An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of the Nations” what we are witnessing today? Obviously the market is no longer free and almost every trade is monopolized by a few chains and conglomerates. Mr. Smith also spoke of “invisible hands”. In spite of the governments’ attempts to hide its hands, they have been visible for the past few years! People are very much aware of the governments’ pouring taxpayers’ money into Wall Street in order to keep corrupt companies afloat. In fact, the system that Mr. Smith and Mr. Ricardo and others introduced in the late 18^th century could never work without the help of the government. You are asking why and how?! It is easy to figure it out. The government distributed land to those selected, and tradesmen were cajoled into factories as "employees". You may say it was peoples’ own choice to work for companies. Let us make it more clear with an example. Next time you are at your auto mechanic’s shop, the one you have been using for a long time because of his expertise, ask him this question: would you close your shop down and find employment in the assembly line of a factory, where you would repeatedly work only on a small section of the engine, or a part of what you are currently engaged in, and in a daily basis? You will not have the benefit of being your own boss, but you get paid in regular basis without worrying about when and how the next customer would bring some business to you. He will accept the challenge if he is not as good in his trade as you thought he was! From the very beginning of the new market system, labor was forced by the government from small shops or from farming fields into factories. Today, the same government destroys any unions workers have established, but industry owners and directors can easily and openly have their own unions under or followed by titles such as Chamber of Commerce, guild, association, league, or society. They have openly created a union with government officials under the nickname ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council), funded by Koch brothers, who have meetings this very week. The unity between workers is crushed in all levels. Since industrialists can get together and set prices in unison, you notice that when the price of gas in one gas station is raised, every other station in town is raising its price by the same ratio. You hear a rise in the price of bread, milk, cereal, meat, …., and other necessary products. You do not hear the price of a certain brand of milk, for instance, is raised, but they are all raised at the same time, in proportion to the original prices. So, let me see now; what happened to the price being determined by competition?

صلح یا جنگ- بخش سوم

آمار جنگ:

زمانی‌ که جنگ سرد بهانه ای برای دولت بود که بتواند از آن طریق مردم را همیشه در ترس و نگرانی نگاه دارد تا ارزشی برای دولت و ارتش بی‌آفریند، و شاید شرکتهای اسلحه سازی را نفع بیشتری برساند، خطر کمونیسم هر روز گوشزد میشد. در خلال سالهای ۱۹۵۰ و اوایل سالهای ۱۹۶۰، در مدارس بلوک غرب هفته ای یکبار تمرینی تحت عنوان “حراست در صورت حمله اتمی‌” میشد، که به آن “drop، duck، cover” یا “سقوط، محافظت، پوشش” در جمله‌ای امری، میگفتند. به این ترتیب که بچه ها با اشارهٔ مربی خودشان را به زمین می‌ا‌نداختند و سر خود را (در حالیکه بدن را مچاله میکردند) با دستها می‌پوشاندند و اگر پناهگاهی در دسترس بود زیر آن پنهان میشدند. با توجه به اینکه در صورت حملهٔ ناگهانی اتمی‌ هیچگونه عملی‌ برای تامین محافظت شخصی‌ وجود ندارد، اینگونه تمرینها فقط به منظور کنترل اذهان بچه‌ها برگزار میشد. در ماههای پس از ۱۱ سپتامبر نیز تا مدتی‌ هر روزه هشدار با رنگهای مختلف به مردم ابلاغ میشد، تا زمانی‌ که این هشدارها معنای خود را از دست دادند، و گاهی‌مورد تمسخر و استهزا قرار گرفتند! البته جنگ با تروریسم جهانی‌ خدعه ایست که هنوز هم پس از بیش از یک دهه جوانان را اغفال می‌کند. گرچه بزرگترین جنگ‌افروز جهان، آمریکا، با قرارداد اتمیِ هفتهٔ پیش با ایران سیاستی متفاوت در پیش گرفته است که در نتیجهٔ شکست غرب و پیروزی ایران نیست، بلکه به دلیل عقب نشینیِ موقتِ غرب است. با وجود آنکه بزرگترین نیروی نظامی دنیا در اختیار آمریکا است، عقب نشینی آمریکا موقتی و در نتیجهٔ ضعف سیاسی (و نه نظامی) آن است، و حتی چند روز پیش بحث بر سر افول قدرت نظامی آمریکا بود! با توجه به اینکه قرن ۲۱ میلادی با شیپور جنگ آغازید، لازم است که برای ریشه کن کردن این حربهٔ دولتی، یعنی قتل نفس و کشتار بی‌ رویه، کوشید. چناچه گفته شد، تنها راه جلوگیری از جنگ آموزش و مطالعهٔ تاریخ است، که برندگان و بازندگان هر جنگی را مشخص می‌کند. بازندگان هرآینه عامه مردم و برندگان سیاستمداران و سرمایه‌دارن هستند.

Half A Century; Anniversary of JFK Murder

There have been many theories about John F. Kennedy's murder of fifty years ago today, none of which would match the official story. As the years go by, more and more documents are released by the government, shedding more light on this event. However, with the absence and destruction of the original and the condoning documents by the culprits, this mystery does not seem to ever find a conclusion. Saudi Arabia and Israel are pursuing the same goals!  Both governments support ultra-right religious doctrines; they have similar gentrification policies (non-Wahhabis in the case of Saudi Arabia, and Non-Jews in the case of Israel); Saudi Arabia is a dumping ground for American obsolete and outdated military weapons and Israel is the conductor of testing new American missiles on Palestinians; in order to keep the hostility boiling, both governments constantly antagonize Iranian government’s nuclear ambitions; they both empower Syrian rebels politically and bellicosely; and both favor the most fanatic religious dogma such as Al-Qaida and Taliban expanding their powers in the Middle East. In addition to the similarity in their aims and reasons, sometimes similarity appears in their styles as well. For instance, they both rely on the US government to pave the road for them. Thus, US government (Democrats and Republicans alike) support these and similar regimes for their own self-serving reasons. Saudi Arabia is a milking cow, by providing the US with cheap and abundant oil, and getting paid with surplus military materials. The Israeli government has financial arms in the US (such as AIPAC), lobbying every pro-Israeli candidate, from the president down to the least influential local elected official; groups which are supported in return by Wall Street. Both Saudi Arabia and Israel are claiming their territorial hegemony, and for the time being, they are beating the drum of war against Syria Iran with the same accord. US government, at its weakest financial and military juncture, is approaching a less confrontational involvement with Iran and with Syria, with the recommendations of most military leaders. This does not agree with the original plan of the 21^st century for the region (PNAC). Therefore, Saudi Arabia and Israel are pushing Obama to return to the original plan of “axis of evil plus two”; meaning the days of invasion of Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya and continuation of drones and other incursion as in Pakistan, Sudan, and Yemen, and expansion of war in the region.

لزوم جنگ:

با توجه به کلیه دلایل ضد و نقیضی که در بخش نخست آمد، هر آینه به نظر می‌رسد که مطالعهٔ تاریخ برای تک تک افرادِ هر جامعه‌ای ضروری است. چرا که جنگ هیچگاه برای رفع اختلافات و یا سؤ تفاهمات مردم یک کشور با مردم کشور مورد هجوم نمی‌تواند باشد؛ بلکه نزاع و کشتار همواره توسط حکمرانان و بر سر غنایم بوده است. اگر افراد عادی، یعنی کسانی‌ که تحت فشار و یا تبلیغات حاکمین وارد جنگ میشوند، به این نتیجه برسند که هیچ دلیلی‌ جنگ را توجیه نمیکند، به پایان جنگها رقم زده‌ایم. با ترویج این ایده و این پیام که جنگها را مردم آغاز نمیکنند و سرچشمه جنگ دولت است، شاید بتوانیم از ورود جوانان به ارتش جلوگیری کنیم. در این مورد پرسش هائی ممکن است مطرح شود که در ظاهر ضرورت جنگ را توجیه کند. به عنوان مثال، چنانچه به مرزهای کشوری حمله شد چه باید کرد؛ و یا چگونه می‌توان با دولتی مستبد و جانی مبارزه کرد؟ پاسخ هر دو پرسش در یافتن راه مبارزه بدون توسل به جنگ، و آموزش و آگاه سازی نهفته است. اکثر مردم جهان در ناآگاهی کلانی بسر میبرند. بهترین راه برای خاموش نگاه داشتن خشم مردم، عدم آگاهی‌ آنها از آن چیزی است که آنها را خشمگین کرده است. نظامهای پیش رفته، مانند دولتهای آمریکای شمالی و اروپائی، از نظر روانشناسی‌ اجتماعی و تحت تاثیر قرار دادن افراد جوامع خود، به روشهای علمی‌ مجهزند و میتوانند مردم را فارغ از سیاستهای دولت و یا در جهاتی که خود به آن جهات تمایل دارند سوق دهند. آنها وسائلی در دست دارند که  میتوانند اکثر مردم را در ناآگاهی کامل نگاه دارند. نگاهی‌ به سر فصلهای نشریات مختلف (که امروزه بیشتر در صفحات اصلی‌ مرورگرهای شبکه های رایانه‌ای به چشم میخورند) می‌توان به نوع اخباری که به چشم و گوش مردم می‌رسد توجه کرد. مهمترین خبرهای سیاسی و اقتصادی از این صفحات دور شده‌اند و خبرهائی آغشته به تبلیغات (که در ظاهر به نظر خبر میایند) و شایعات در عناوین این صفحات به وفور‌ یافت میشوند. از آنجائی که دستگاههای خبری توسط شرکتهای بزرگ با سرمایه‌ های سرشار اداره میشوند، نه تنها خبرهای مهم نایابند، بلکه آنچه که به نظر خبر سیاسی یا اقتصادی میاید تحریفی از اخبار واقعی‌ میباشد. به این وسیله دولتها دست در دست سرمایه‌داران به تغییر جهت دادن افکار مردم، و به آنچه که مورد نظرشان است (تجاوز و تصاحب مواد اولیه و مایملک ملل ضعیف) میپردازند. اگر دولتهای ضعیف به مقابله با این تجاوزات اقدام کنند، با ترویج اخبار نادرست جوانان را با تهییج و تحریک بر ضد کشورِ مورد حمله، و به جنگ با او ترغیب میکنند.

مقدمه جنگ:

"جنگ و صلح” یکی‌ از طولانی‌ترین کتابهایی بود که سالها پیش خواندم. جالب این است که با وجود اینکه خواندن این کتاب ماه‌ها، و شاید سالی‌ به طول انجامید، بجز گوشه‌های کمی‌ از آن داستان طویل، و موضوع اصلی‌ داستان، مطلب چشمگیری را بخاطر نمیاورم. تا جایی که به یاد دارم، جنگ و صلح، مشهور ترین نوشته تولستوی، تصویر موجز و دقیقی‌ از جنگ  ۱۸۱۲ فرانسه و روسیه بر خاطره‌ها به جای می‌گذارد. گروهی از صلح‌دوستان معتقدند که چنانچه جزئیات جنگ بصورتی آشکار و گرافیک بازگو شود، ممکن است نوعی انزجار از جنگ در خواننده یا شنونده یا بیننده ایجاد کند. البته هر چیزی که احساسات ما را بر انگیخته و باعث دگرگونی روحیه‌مان شود و جای پائی در ذهن کاوشگر ما باقی‌ بگذارد، میتواند تاثیر مثبت یا منفی‌ داشته باشد. به قول معروف این حرکت، یک شمشیر دو لبه یا دو تیغه است. نمیدانم هدف تولستوی هم از بیان فجایع حمله ناپلئون به روسیه جلوگیری از تکرار چنین حملاتی بود؛ که البته اگر مقصود اوچنین هدفی‌ بود، این تلاش نتیجه ای نداشت. چرا که ۱۲۹ سال بعد آلمان به شوروی حمله کرد، که با اضمحلال ارتش آلمان پایان یافت. یعنی‌ دقیقا سرانجام آلمان در این جنگ مشابه سرانجام فرانسه در جنگ ۱۸۱۲ بود.  ولی‌ به نظر می‌رسد که نمود فجایع جنگی تاثیری بر ذهنیت مردم و توجه آنها به نتیجه اسف بار جنگ نداشته، و تاریخ (حتی اگر تحریف هم نشده باشد) چندان آویزه گوش نسلهای بعد نمی‌شود. در واقع گاهی‌ تکرار این مصیبتها میتواند تاثیر معکوس داشته باشد. به این صورت که چنانکه این تبلیغات در دست شخص مغرضی باشد، از آن میتواند برای تحریک عوام و به ثمر رساندن طرحهای شیطانی خود استفاده ‌کند. به عنوان مثال، صدمات عظیم جنگ نخست جهانی‌، و شرایط ناجوانمردانه و غیر قابل پوزش تحمیل شده بر مردم آلمان، ابزاری به دست دولت نازی داد که بتواند از آن یک پیراهن عثمان ساخته، مردم ناآگاه را برعلیه انگلیس و فرانسه تحریک کند. با ایجاد وحشت و تحریک حسّ قومی و نژادی، دولت نازی اقوام آلمانی‌ را نیز بر علیه یکدیگر شوراند، و آغاز به یک پاکسازی نژادی و نسل‌کشی کرد. در پی آن و با استفاده از همان ترفند، ظلمی که به قوم یهود رفت مانند شمشیر دموکلس بالای سر ملتهای عَرَب بیش از نیم قرن است که تجاوزات و نسل کُشی‌های صهیونیستی را توجیه می‌کند. ما ناآگاهانه به جنگ بیش از صلح اعتبار میدهیم و توجه می‌کنیم. این طبیعی است که از آنچه روزمره است، مانند سلامتی‌ و آرامش و نظام طبیعی، تمتع می‌بریم بدون آنکه متوجه باشیم که عدم وجود آنها ویرانگر است. مثلا چنانکه بیمار شویم و یا یک انقلاب اجتماعی پدید آید و یا طوفان یا زلزله یا سیل نظام طبیعی را بهم بزند، آنچه را که داشتیم گرامی‌ میداریم. اگر در عنوان کتاب “جنگ و صلح” کاوش کنیم،‌ و در تاثیر گذاری عناوین کتب در هر زمینه ای بررسی کنیم، از سه واژه‌ای که در عنوان این کتاب است (جنگ، و، صلح)، اولین واژه “جنگ” است و در اینصورت به نظر می‌رسد که کفه ترازو بیشتر بطرف جنگ پائین میاید یا بطرف صلح. داستان هم که قاعدتاً داستان جنگ است، و جنگ در مقابل صلح قرار می‌گیرد، نه در کنار آن. اگر چه منظور تولستوی از صلح میتواند نتیجه بدست آمده پس از جنگ ‌باشد، که البته عواقب جنگ به دلیل شکست و تسلیم یک طرف، صلح برای طرف متخاصم محسوب نمی‌شود. شاید باید عنوان داستان طویل تولستوی بصورت پرسشی بود که با صلح می‌آغازید: صلح یا جنگ؟!

HISTORY OF SUPERSTITION

We are comfortably allowing our brains to get lazy and rot! A Hollywood created movie with

the usual recipe of action and blood and gore and sex is readily digested by us than a movie that requires more thought, because of its in-depth and challenging production. Art has become a fast food for our brains; greasy and without much of nutritional values. This is not to say we should not write poetry to compare the lover’s blue eyes with the sky, and to only put our efforts to learn how one’s eyes function and what is beyond the sky. We need science for social and technological improvements, and art for leisure. When we accustom our idle brains to further learning and exploring, our brains get accustomed to the process. As idle brains are not used to exhaustive research, it may feel a burden at the beginning. However, it becomes a second nature to us, after a while. As an example, concerned about our future financial security, one may assess all options and alternatives available to him or her. One of the alternatives may be creating a periodical saving plan. Investment in securities, stocks, Treasury Bills, and bonds is another option. One may decide on IRA, 401K, or other retirement plans. There are several other alternatives depending on the risk one is taking; the riskiest of which is relying on the advice of a fortuneteller. The same is true for any decision we want to make about our future. We may work on our relationship with our children, our spouses, our friends, or our loved ones, which takes time and commitment, or simply check pages of horoscope.  Religions’ promises of after-life follows the same logic as fortunetellers and horoscope observers. We are cheated out of our lives if we pay heeds to the religious leaders’ promise of a happy life after death, as long as we endure sufferings of present life.  Carl Sagan, in his last book “Billions & Billions”, after talking about his longing to witness the events such as “exploration of many of the worlds” or the growth of his grandchildren remarks: “If there were life after death, I might, no matter when I die, satisfy most of these deep curiosities and longings.  But if death is nothing more than an endless dreamless sleep, this is a forlorn hope.  Maybe this perspective has given me a little extra motivation to stay alive.”

ملتی بزرگ

 

ملتی که پس از خروج رضا شاه و با استفاده از آزادیِ باز یافته، و در مدتی‌ کوتاه دهها حزب سیاسی، انجمن ادبی‌، و گروه‌های اجتماعی به وجود آورد. ملتی که با چپ و راست و مذهبی‌ و غیر مذهبی‌، تا آغاز دوران ستم‌شاهی و دیکتاتوری، مدارا کرد و از احترام یکدیگر نکاست. ملتی که مصدق را به رهبری برگزید، و تا انتها به او وفادار ماند؛ حتی پس از آنکه  شاه (با دریوزگی از غرب و استمالت از آخوند کاشانی و اجیر کردنِ اشرار و قداره کشان) نه تنها به دیکتاتوری ادامه داد، بلکه از ترس ملاها، امامزاده‌ها و مساجد را باز سازی کرد و هر سال به زیارت رفت (به عکسهای کاشانی با شاه و همچنین با شعبان بی‌ مخ و رمضان یخی و سایر اوباش پس از کودتای ۲۸ مرداد رجوع شود). ملتی که با دیدن کوچکترین بارقه‌های آزادی و ضعف شاه در سال ۵۷ بار دیگر انقلاب کرد. ملتی که هیچگاه از مبارزه دست نکشید، و زمانی‌ که انقلابش (به دلیل خلأ سیاسی به وجود آمده پس از کودتا و ۲۵ سال کشتارِ آزادی خواهان و ائتلاف خمینی با غرب) به انحراف گرائید، همچنان در صحنه ماند. ملتی که ۳۵ سال است که برای آزادی تلاش می‌کند و در حالی‌ که بهترین فرزندانش یا در زندانها میپوسند و یا به جوخه های تیر سپرده میشوند هنوز در صحنه مبارزه باقی‌ مانده‌است. ملتی که با بینش آگاهانهٔ سیاسی پی برد که مبارزه با سفّاک ترین رژیم موجود تنها از طریق استفاده از باریکترین و کوچکترین ضعف رژیم است. ملتی که با خِرَدِ کامل و برای از جلوی پای برداشتن بزرگترین خطر، یعنی حمله آمریکا و اسرائیل به کشور و نابود کردن آن (چنانچه بر لیبی‌ و سوریه رفت)، دوباره به پای صندوق رأی رفت و تنها کسی‌ را که میتوانست جلوی نابودی ایران را بگیرد از بین نمایندگانِ افراطی انتخاب کرد، و نتیجه آن را چند روز پیش شاهد بودیم، که نتنیاهو را واداشت که بدون فوت وقت به واشینگتن بشتابد. فرو پاشیِ کشورِ کهنسال ایران به دست کسانی که در این کشور زندگی‌ میکنند هیچگاه انجام نیافته و اصولا میسر نیست. این فقط به دست (و آرزوی) کسانی‌ است که به خارج پناه برده‌اند، و بار دیگر از غرب دریوزگی میکنند. صد البته این آرزو اینبار برای شکست یک دولت مردمی نیست، بلکه برای فرو ریختن کاخ دیکتاتورهای اسلامی است. ولی‌ ملت ایران ثابت کرده است که تا آنجا که نیروی خارجی‌ و یا کارگزارانش به ایران نظر نداشته باشند، مردم ایران شایستگی استیفای حقوق خود را دارند. تاریخ صد ساله ایران نمیانگر این است که این یک دروغ بزرگ نیست. این روش ملتی بزرگ است.

He may also be remembered as the last US president who was concerned about world peace, human rights, Israel as a rogue state, social welfare, prevention of environmental degradation, a health system for all, free education, and a more equitable distribution of wealth in his country. Of course he could pursue these goals so long as the system governing the policies of the United States would allow him. The difference between a system, state, or regime and a government has been discussed before. Such regimes employ governments, along with legislative and judicial system, (and in some cases military) to ensure the continuation of policies, to protect it from the silent majority and from other states. Of course, as the regime modifies its policies, some of those apparatuses may not adhere to them, which may lead up to the removal of the instrument from office. That may be the reason for Cater administration not surviving more than one term. Needless to say that he was replaced with one of the most reactionary presidents this country had seen. Of course, we witnessed less qualified and more reactionary presidents since then.
