Corals are starting to Bleach as Global Ocean Temperatures hit Record Highs

Ian Enochs

July14, 2023
The water off South Florida is over 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) in mid-July, and scientists are already seeing signs of coral bleaching off Central and South America. Particularly concerning is how early in the summer we are seeing these high ocean temperatures. If the extreme heat persists, it could have dire consequences for coral reefs.

July 14, 2023

As America’s Influence Wanes, China’s Grows

Ted Snider
July 06, 2023
Individually, each step is a small step barely picked up by the news. But in recent weeks, the world has been vibrating with multipolarity.

June 28, 2023
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader the Wagner group, has ended his siege of the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don and turned around his march on Moscow. It is not clear what happened nor what was staged and what was real. Each expert and commentator offers a different expert commentary.

Will US-Iran talks in Oman allow the two Countries to avoid War?

July 2, 2023
Late in 2022, the Biden administration announced that it had given upon on negotiating a restoration of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA), which Donald Trump destroyed in May 2018 by ripping it up and slapping what amounts to a financial and trade embargo on Iran.

Prigozhin goes into exile but left behind a can of worms

June 28, 2023
On Monday night, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the nation for the second time with the intention to bring the curtain down on the coup attempt by Wagner “founder” Yevgeny Prigozhin on June 23-24. It was quintessentially a self-congratulatory speech — well-deserved, perhaps.

The Supreme Court just struck down Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan. Here’s Plan B.

June 30, 2023
Though the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 on Friday to strike down President Joe Biden’s plan to forgive up to $20,000 in student loans, student debt relief might still be happening, albeit a little slower than with the original plan.

Seymour Hersh: Prigozhin’s Folly

June 29, 2023
The Biden administration had a glorious few days last weekend. The ongoing disaster in Ukraine slipped from the headlines to be replaced by the “revolt,” as a New York Times headline put it, of Yevgeny Prigozhin, chief of the mercenary Wagner Group.

Unveiling Resistance: The Struggle for Women’s Rights in Iran

June 27, 2023
The sweeping public protests that erupted across Iran in response to the death of Mahsa (Jina) Amini in custody of Iran’s morality police last September have been characterized by many observers as the first feminist uprising in the region. The visually powerful images of women and girls defying compulsory hijab laws in the streets and the slogan “women, life, freedom” have strengthened this characterization and drawn broad international sympathy. But the sweeping protests and their demands for fundamental change were met with a brutal government crackdown that resulted in hundreds of deaths and tens of thousands of arbitrary arrests. Almost nine months later, women’s right to choose their own way of dressing remains at the center of the protest movement. Understanding why requires a closer look at how the broader struggle of women for equal rights in Iran has evolved over the years.

We the People Can Stop the Surging Corporate Crime Wave

"Citizens mobilized against corporate abuses in the 1960s and 70s. It can happen again now."
June 25, 2023
Most heads of giant corporations are drunk with their own power. These corporate CEOs push the envelope in ways that harm defenseless people. They believe they can get away with anything, and they do, with few exceptions. The few corporate crime prosecutions keep declining from Obama to Trump to Biden, due to a settlement-obsessed Department of Justice staffed by lawyers readying to join the lucrative major corporate crime defense firms.

The Tragedy of the Unabomber

June 22, 2023
Ted Kaczynski’s criticisms of environmental destruction and out-of-control technology were incisive. But, disdaining leftists and being unwilling to join with others in a social movement, he resorted to abhorrent terroristic methods that had no chance of solving any of the problems he perceived.

Remembering the Rosenbergs

Seventy years later, the lessons of their politically motivated state executions are as relevant as ever.
Jun 19, 2023
On that June 19th evening in 1953, I was a small kid in a suburb of Philadelphia, concerned above all with baseball, when I noticed that something had made my parents very upset. When I asked them what was wrong, they informed me that Julius and Ethel Rosenberg had been killed in the electric chair, in a place called Sing Sing in New York, and that it was a horrible injustice.

A new budget loophole will send pentagon spending soaring even higher.
June 22, 2023
On June 3rd, President Joe Biden signed a bill into law that lifted the government’s debt ceiling and capped some categories of government spending. The big winner was — surprise, surprise! — the Pentagon.

How US and UK Government Propaganda Specialists Collaborated with Nazis in Ukraine

June 20, 2023
A MintPress investigation has found that a host of Western government officials, intelligence agents and assets have been directly involved in intimate collaboration with Nazi groups and individuals since at least 2014. This has included involvement in creating and operating the Nazi-run kill list in Ukraine, which MintPress revealed recently.

Report Details Intensifying Police Crackdown on US Journalists Covering Protests

"The inadequacy of press freedom protections was starkly exposed during the Trump administration, when some of the largest street protests in American history took place," according to a new report.
Jun 20, 2023
In recent years, particularly since former Republican President Donald Trump took office in 2017, U.S. police have failed to uphold basic constitutional rights for journalists covering rallies and other protests, a new report from the Knight First Amendment Institute said Tuesday, with the study documenting a number of physical attacks, unjust arrests, and suppression tactics used by police at protests both large and small.
